Chapter 399: Isaac’s Death (The Death of a Soldier) (1)
New World, Marine defensive line behind Whole Cake Island.
Due to the distance, the officers who had not attended the meeting selected commanders and unified their forces, forming the inner defensive line before beginning the advance.
By evening, the newly formed inner defensive line slowly pushed forward.
On a warship, Isaac, who had just rotated off duty, sat at the edge of the second deck while staring in the direction of Kergashi Island. In his hands, he carefully polished his father’s military medal.
Smack!
Someone patted his shoulder.
Caught off guard, the medal nearly slipped from his hand and fell to the ground.
The two men who had once dragged corpses together months ago, only to later be separated and reorganized into different units, had reunited once again.
Isaac looked at the newcomer with a helpless expression. "At least give me a warning next time, Elton."
Elton grinned and sat down beside him. Looking at the battle-scarred medal, admiration flashed through his eyes. "Missing home again, huh?"
Honestly speaking, Isaac’s medal might really possess some mysterious power. Those bullet holes were the best proof.
Isaac shrugged and carefully placed his cleaned father’s medal back against his chest. "Yeah."
There was a hint of emotion in his voice before he suddenly laughed and continued, "Actually, I never planned to make it back alive. Back then, I figured killing one pirate would make it worthwhile. Killing two would already be a profit. I never imagined I’d survive all the way until now.
"I even got to witness monsters like the Four Emperors fall. The Great Pirate Era is over...
"Now I suddenly really want to go home. I miss my mother. I miss my little sister. I even miss that annoying brother-in-law of mine..."
Elton chuckled softly, though there was envy hidden in his tone. "That’s nice..."
In truth, he had once thought the same as Isaac. He never expected to survive until the end of the war either.
But unlike Isaac, his home and family had long since disappeared.
Isaac smiled and placed a hand on Elton’s shoulder. "When the war ends, come visit Kergashi Island with me. It’s a really beautiful place."
Elton froze for a moment before smiling as well. "Alright—"
Before he could finish speaking, the warship violently shook.
Then came a massive explosion.
The two men, who had been leaning against the deck together, were just like the other ordinary soldiers around them. The impact instantly caused blood to burst from their eyes, ears, nose, and mouth before they lost consciousness...
To true monsters, ordinary soldiers like them were no different from ants...
Columns of boiling seawater descended from the sky one after another and smashed toward the center of the fleet.
A voice overflowing with killing intent followed closely behind.
"Tropical Torment!"
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!!!
The water pillars blasted straight through the deck, and the keel of the warship commanded by a Vice Admiral was instantly shattered apart.
Inside the cabin, the commanding Vice Admiral drew his sword and shot into the sky.
Charlotte Oven, his entire body glowing red while holding a naginata, came crashing down like a mountain-splitting strike.
BOOM!!!!
He pressed the Vice Admiral down onto the deck with overwhelming force.
Beside the warship, a gigantic blue steam genie dozens of meters tall swung its naginata and sliced the warship cleanly in half with a single strike.
Charlotte Daifuku controlled the massive steam genie and flew toward several other warships radiating powerful auras.
"Genie Guillotine!"
BOOM!!!!
Another warship was cut straight through the middle.
Far away in the distance, taking advantage of the sun having just set, the remnants of Knox’s forces charged toward this area.
These were the people Oven and Daifuku had gone to retrieve.
But there were too many people and not enough ships, causing their fleet to move slowly. Then contact with Whole Cake Island had suddenly been lost.
They could only bring the survivors back first, only to run directly into the Marine fleet carrying out the encirclement operation...
Puchi!
Oven thrust his blade straight into the chest of the commanding Vice Admiral before pulling it back out.
The Vice Admiral slowly collapsed to the ground...
Oven touched the wound on his neck that had nearly sliced through his throat. Fear still lingered in his eyes.
"Damn Marines."
The pirates they had retrieved in the distance also charged over at this moment.
Oven took a deep breath and shouted, "Seize the ships!!!"
Countless pirates swarmed onto the Marine vessels as both sides immediately descended into a brutal struggle for control of the fleet.
But with monsters of this level personally supporting the pirates, this Marine fleet quickly began to...

New World, Kergashi Island.
Aria hummed a small tune while cooking.
Every now and then, she returned to the room to check on her mother, who had already fallen into dementia.
Bang!
The door was suddenly shoved open.
Aria jumped in fright, but after seeing it was her husband, she finally relaxed. "You scared me to death."
But soon she realized something was wrong.
Her husband was gasping heavily for breath, clearly having run all the way home. His face was filled with joy while he tightly gripped a newspaper and a letter in his hands.
"What happened?"
There were tears glimmering in his eyes. "The... the Four Emperors are dead! The Marines won!! And there’s also a letter from Isaac!"
As he spoke, he quickly walked over to her and unfolded the newspaper wide open.
On the front page was the familiar Marine Headquarters plaza. The same place where Fleet Admiral Sakazuki had declared war against the pirates. But now...
Four severed heads were mounted there!!!!
Aria covered her mouth in disbelief as tears instantly poured from her eyes.
The Great Pirate Era had truly ended. Just like that Marine Fleet Admiral had declared... it had really... ended...
Unable to hold back any longer, Aria hugged her husband tightly and burst into tears.
No one could understand what Roger’s massacre over twenty years ago had done to the people here.
It was a pain that one generation, two generations, even three generations could never erase. A shadow that had haunted them for decades without fading...
And now, the era of rampant piracy that had begun because of that unforgivable man had finally come to an end...
After crying for a long time, as though she had finally released over twenty years of suffering, Aria gradually calmed down.
Wiping her tears away, she looked at the newspaper and letter soaked with moisture in her hands.
"I’m going to read this to mom."
She let go of her husband while crying and laughing at the same time. "Go buy more meat. We’re making a huge feast today to celebrate!"
Her husband grinned. "No problem. I’ll go right now. If I’m late, everything will be sold out."
The entire island had already fallen into an ocean of joy. Even from inside their home, they could hear cheers and celebrations echoing everywhere.
Tonight was destined to be a sleepless night.
