Chapter 56 Returning Home
Chapter 56 Returning Home
"Well, it seems that the banquet cannot continue. Let's just end it now." After Emperor Jing said this, he stood up and left.
Everyone else stood up and followed Emperor Jing out, leaving the Zheng family members kneeling on the ground, their faces sullen. Meanwhile, the sounds of laughter and chatter reached Wen, causing her face to flush red with shame. She was already proud, and now, hearing the sarcasm, she wished she could crawl into a hole.
Only when the yard became quiet did the Su, Zheng and Liu families stand up.
"Wan'er, let's go home." Cheng's eyes were moist. After all this trouble today, she couldn't believe what Su Wan had been through. This Zheng family was truly a den of cannibalism.
"Aunt, I will come back. But things are not settled yet, so I have to go back to the Zheng family."
"Just leave it to the servants if you need anything. If you've fallen out with them, what will you do if they do something to harm you?"
Cheng's tone was sad, but Zheng Weilan behind her looked pale.
Zheng Yanchen came over, bowed, and said, "Aunt, Wan'er and I still have a lot to talk about. I'll personally send her back once everything is settled."
Cheng snorted coldly, "I don't deserve to be called aunt. The Su family will come to pick you up tomorrow. You'd better quickly get the divorce papers."
Zheng Yanchen's face turned red. Just as he was suppressing his frustration and wanted to say something, Xie Yin walked over.
When Su Wan raised her eyes, she happened to meet those smiling phoenix eyes. She immediately bowed her head and saluted Wen before leaving the yard.
"Lord Zheng." Xie Yin walked over. "The Zheng family is involved in a lot of trouble. His Majesty sent me here to question you. It's best if you don't wander off now. After all, the matter isn't settled yet."
Zheng Yanchen has always looked down upon Xie Yin's carefree and self-righteous appearance.
He puffed out his chest and said, "The mountains remain unchanged, and the rivers flow forever. No one can predict the outcome until the end. I advise you to restrain yourself."
Xie Yin hummed, "Mr. Zheng is right. This company will definitely take the Zheng family as a warning and will never do such a beastly thing."
Zheng Yanchen frowned and glared at Xie Yin.
After everything in the garden was settled, Su Wan persuaded Cheng to follow her on the Zheng family's carriage back to the Zheng family.
In Tingyu Pavilion, the servants were busy cleaning up, but no one dared to make a sound.
"Erlang Jun."
"You guys go down first."
Zheng Yanchen walked into the inner room. Su Wan was sitting on the bed packing small items without getting up.
"The divorce agreement will be delivered in a few days."
"Tomorrow."
Zheng Yanchen frowned. "It seems like you've already planned this. Do you really want to leave the Zheng family? Get rid of me?"
Su Wan pursed her lips and smiled, "My dear, what are you talking about? I am making room for Madam Liu. After all, she is pregnant and can't wait any longer."
Zheng Yanchen's face darkened. "Why do you treat the Zheng family like this? Do you think you'll be safe once you return to the Su family? Isn't it good to be your mistress? Why don't you cherish her?"
Su Wan finally raised her head. "Cherish? Ever since I joined the Zheng family, I've been subjected to harsh criticism and ridicule. Even the servants in the mansion haven't given me the slightest respect. Do you think this kind of life is hope? You laugh at me, belittle me, and even want to kick me out. But don't forget, it wasn't all my wishful thinking in the beginning."
Zheng Yanchen paused and said, "Then I will respect and love you from now on. Let's not divorce, okay? How about we ask His Majesty to revoke his decree?"
"What about the Liu family girl? Will she be content to be a concubine? Or do you want to marry her as a co-wife and take charge of all matters in the mansion, while I stay in this cage and let you have your fun?"
Zheng Yanchen looked at Su Wan in surprise. His plan was to give the Liu family girl her rights and keep her distance, while he and Su Wan remained equals. However, Su Wan's words were truly harsh. What did she mean by "entertainment"? How had she become like Xie Yin?
Seeing that there was no trace of nostalgia in Su Wan's eyes and even a bit of contempt, Zheng Yanchen could no longer bear it.
"I'm doing this for your own good! Every day I think about our future together and never thought about divorcing you. Are you so cruel?"
Su Wan looked at Zheng Yanchen, looking aggrieved, but her face remained calm. Whatever he did was for her own good. Ridiculing her was for her own good, as was imprisoning her. If it were her old self, she would have hugged him and cried, then continued to be this wronged person.
"Do you love me that much?"
"nature!"
"Is it the kind of love that would destroy my people?"
Zheng Yanchen's pupils shrank. He hadn't expected Su Wan to be so direct. Zheng Yanchen was a proud man, and now that Su Wan had broken the window paper, he felt a little embarrassed.
"The Zheng family did something that was unfair to you, but, but you and I were husband and wife, and I know you loved me. So, can you please endure this time and never do this again in the future?"
After all, Su Wan used to love to be tolerant.
"If I wanted to kill your relatives but was unable to do so due to some obstacles, what would you do?"
Zheng Yanchen's face was frozen, and he didn't know how to answer.
Su Wan smiled bitterly, "A lifetime is too long. My family is just this much, I can't afford to pay it back. Tomorrow, I will take the divorce papers and leave the Su family."
The next day, at dawn, Cheng brought Su Lin and Su Jue to pick up Su Wan.
The nanny and several servants loaded the things they had packed early onto the carriage. Although some of the things had been pawned, Su Wan's household was so rich that the two carriages were a bit crowded.
Zheng Weilan was angry with the Su family and unwilling to intervene, as was the Wen family, but they had to. Because it was an imperial decree, no members of the clan were invited. Su Wan held the divorce agreement without saying anything, and Zheng Yanchen tried to stop her, but was stopped by Su Lin.
Three carriages were driving along the long street, and together with the servants who were brought back with them, this scene was extremely eye-catching and quickly attracted the attention of everyone on the street.
"Don't be afraid, you are free now." Cheng comforted.
Su Wan smiled, lowered her eyes slightly, and said softly, "I'm afraid it will implicate the daughter of the Su family."
"Don't talk nonsense. All the noble families in the capital were present at what happened that day. According to Dachang law, they are guilty of you. And you are so reasonable, who can say anything wrong about you?"
Even so, the world has always been unfair to women. Even if Su Wan felt wronged, she couldn't stop the gossip.
The carriage soon arrived at the Su family's house, and Su Wan was led to the front hall, where the servants and the steward arranged things.
In the front hall, Taifu Su sat at the desk, his cloudy eyes staring out the door. When he saw the figure coming in clearly, Taifu stood up tremblingly.
"Grandfather!" Su Wan's voice trembled, and she immediately knelt on her knees, tears of guilt pouring out like a broken dam.
"Get up quickly!" Taifu Su's voice was also choked with sobs, and he quickly reached out to help Su Wan, "Good boy, go home, it's good to go home!" Taifu Su looked at Su Wan's tearful eyes, and his heart felt as if it was cut by a sharp knife. He really regretted marrying into the Zheng family.
Everyone present couldn't help but shed tears. Soon after, a voice from outside the door broke the sad atmosphere.
"Oh, Wan'er is back." The woman's voice was filled with surprise.
Looking up, she saw a woman in gorgeous purple clothes walking in with Jiang Yun. This was Su Wan's aunt, Su Si Niang.
