Chapter 279: Missed Him [2]
Chapter 279: Missed Him [2]
Their mother Alia would always try to mediate things between the father and son, but their conflicts never seemed to stop.
Though Alicia didn’t understand the entire situation, still... she had once heard it was something related to being the heir of House Frost.
Brother Kael was the heir, and father wanted him to train earlier than the rest, so that he would become capable enough of leading the house.
Once Alicia had even seen her brother begin to train when father had scolded him for the first time, but... that was the only time she had seen him train.
After that, Brother Kael had begun to fight back whenever father scolded him, and that only went on to intensify their conflicts.
Though mother always told her that the situation would soon resolve on its own, Alicia wasn’t dumb.
She could see that the fights were becoming more serious with every passing day.
Alicia’s elder sister had always tried to calm down Kael whenever mother had not been around, but Kael would even shout at her.
Though Victoria would never argue back, as doing that would lead to even more fights amongst them.
Once Alicia had seen her quietly crying in her room when no one was around.
That was also the same time when Kael had stopped paying attention to Alicia, making the little girl feel heavy in her heart from time to time.
At first, whenever she had any problems, Kael would immediately arrive beside her, but now—
No matter how much she cried, her brother would never be there to comfort her, at least her elder brother.
Since Kael’s sudden change in behaviour, Kevin had become more proactive in staying with her.
Such an atmosphere continued in the house for quite a while before things started to turn for the worse.
One day, after being tired of Kael’s uncooperative behaviour, Alicia’s father had completely given up on him.
A huge argument between the two was soon followed by her father designating Kevin as the new heir to House Frost.
Though her mother as well as Victoria and Kevin were against the decision, her father didn’t budge an inch.
Still... Alicia hoped that after being freed from the duties of an heir, her brother would be happy, but—
Things only took a turn for the worse.
Kael had begun to actively participate in every activity that would put the name of their house to shame.
Consuming beverages like alcohol had become an everyday thing for him.
Kael would always get into fights with the children of other noble houses, resulting in her father having to solve every dispute in order to save the public image of the house.
But Kael... he never seemed to care for any of it.
He had even begun to shout curses at them. Even her mother wasn’t spared from his brutal words.
After turning fourteen years of age, Alicia had grown old enough to be able to talk some sense into her brother, but Kael... he always ignored her.
Sometimes Alicia even feared whether her brother would become violent with her.
After Kevin was designated as the heir, even Victoria had stopped paying attention to Kael, as she had begun treating him like an outsider.
Though Alicia knew that deep within, her sister still cared for Kael.
But none of it mattered to her brother, as he kept on doing whatever his mind thought of without caring for the consequences that would follow.
Even after everything, Alicia along with Diana would always be there to console Kael, but their efforts were always met with a dead end.
As time passed, Alicia had completely stopped her efforts to restore the peace in their house.
She knew that no matter what efforts were taken by her, Kael would never return to how he had been before the conflicts had begun.
Still, Diana was there to comfort Kael.
Alicia always saw Diana trying to cheer up Kael whenever she visited their house.
As the first princess of the empire, Diana had her own responsibilities, but she would still take out some time from her busy schedule to visit them.
But no matter how much effort she poured in... Kael never even acknowledged her presence.
It was to the extent that everyone had begun to feel that they were living with a complete stranger.
But the hardships never ended there, as at one point in time, Kael had even forced himself on Diana when she had tried to comfort him.
That was when Victoria and the rest had stepped in, and Diana had returned to her palace, never returning again.
It was only at Diana’s fifteenth birthday that Alicia had seen her again, though they had managed to maintain their contact by talking through communication devices.
Diana... she looked a lot more mature when Alicia had seen her at the banquet, but the two of them couldn’t even have a proper reunion, as Kael badmouthed the Veltran royalty before everyone else.
Just as the situation was getting out of hand, Alicia’s father slapped Kael, while her mother uttered things that Alicia found hard to believe.
Her mother, who had always been a gentle one, someone with the warmest smile Alicia had ever seen—
The same mother had spoken words that seemed to have pierced through Kael’s heart.
Alicia too felt her heart grow heavy after hearing those words, and the same was true for Victoria, Diana, and Kevin.
At that moment, they wanted nothing more than to shield Kael, but never got the chance to, as immediately after the incident, Kael had left the banquet to never be seen again.
Alicia had thought that Kael was just being a little childish and would soon return, but... reality hit her as well as everyone else pretty badly.
Kael... no one was able to trace his whereabouts.
There were even rumours that he had been killed by some monsters, making Alicia break down the moment she had heard the news.
But thankfully, through some means, they were able to determine that Kael was still alive, though no one was able to track him.
