Chapter 226 Settling Down
Chapter 226 Settling Down
As they talked, Qin Ying and Zhao Hu accompanied Aunt Zhao back to her residence.
After the weather warmed up, Qin Ying took An An out of the hot spring villa and lived in a small farm.
There are only two courtyards in the farm. Old man Zhou lives in the front courtyard, Qin Ying and An An live in the main house in the backyard, sisters Zhou Qi and Zhou Mian live in the east wing, and the west wing is a guest room.
When Aunt Zhao arrived, Qin Ying wanted to give the main house to her, but Aunt Zhao waved her hand: "It doesn't matter where I live! There are five rooms in the main house, so An An and I can live there. It's just right that my son-in-law is here, so I don't want the little guy to cause trouble."
There are five main rooms in the house, and the hall in the middle divides the left and right sides into two symmetrical parts.
Originally, Qin Ying lived in the two rooms on the east side, and one of the two rooms on the west side was used as a study and the other as An An's bedroom.
But because Zhou Yu didn't come often, An An always slept with Qin Ying.
After hearing what Aunt Zhao said, Qin Ying felt a little embarrassed, but she didn't insist anymore. She just quickly cleaned up the room and helped put the luggage away.
Aunt Zhao is an open-minded person. She doesn't have many personal belongings. The big and small bags she carries are all wild delicacies brought from her hometown, as well as gifts from her fellow villagers.
Aunt Zhao said with emotion: "When I was in my hometown, the villagers thought that you would have to go back sooner or later. When they heard that I was coming to join you, they all cried and said that we might never go back.
"Everyone was vying to give me things: a handful of dried vegetables from one family, two hangs of bacon from another... I couldn't refuse.
"They were all thoughtful gifts, and I couldn't refuse, so I brought them all."
Qin Ying felt a little uncomfortable when she thought of Tongshu Village, where she had lived for several years. She forced a smile and said, "We can repay the favor in the future. As for whether to go back or not..."
"Who knows? We have a house and land there, so we might go back someday.
"Is Master Chen Jiu all right? Is Grandma Wang all right? Are the villagers all doing well?"
"Okay, okay," Aunt Zhao replied repeatedly, "Everything is fine! Mr. Zhang has helped arrange all the things at home.
"When I left, the village was preparing for spring plowing. I think this year will definitely be a bumper harvest."
"Grandma!" An An's clear voice was getting closer and closer. Just as Aunt Zhao walked into the hall, the child, like a little cannonball, rushed in, jumped up and threw himself into her arms, "Grandma, I miss you so much!"
"Oh, grandma's darling baby!" Aunt Zhao hugged An An tightly, but she felt that her hands were very heavy and she could hardly hold him.
Zhao Hu quickly brought An An over and said angrily, "An Bao'er, you need to eat less. I see you've gained weight again."
"You're the one who's gained weight!" An An made faces at him and stuck out her tongue, "I've grown taller!"
Afraid that Aunt Zhao was tired from the journey, Qin Ying urged her to rest while she went to prepare the ingredients. Zhao Hu planned to help, while An An stayed with her grandma.
Aunt Zhao looked outside and said, "Yingzi, isn't your grandfather here too? He's an elder, so why shouldn't I go and pay my respects to him? Tell me about the etiquette in their family so that no one can pick on him."
"I have some new clothes in my bag that I haven't worn yet. I'll change, wash my face, and comb my hair..."
"No hurry," Qin Ying said with a smile, "Take a rest first, and then we can formally meet in the evening."
Zhao Hu also explained: "Mom, Mr. Zhou is a very kind person and he won't argue."
"You know shit!" Aunt Zhao rolled her eyes at her son. "You take people being polite to you seriously? How come you've been with your brother-in-law for so long, and you're still such a fool?"
Zhao Hu spread his hands helplessly and asked Qin Ying for help.
Qin Ying hurriedly said, "Mom, Hu Zi is not wrong. Grandfather has the mind of a child. After he came here, he hangs out with An An every day and dresses casually. Even if you want to pay him a visit now, he will probably refuse to see you."
He laughed and said, "You are afraid of being rude, and so is he."
Aunt Zhao then stopped talking.
At dusk, Zhou Qi and Zhou Mian came back. When they heard that Aunt Zhao had come, they were very happy and hurried into the backyard.
When Mr. Zhou saw this, he hurriedly called them over, carefully asked Aunt Zhao about her preferences, changed her clothes, and waited for dinner.
Aunt Zhao woke up feeling refreshed. Qin Ying took out the clothes and jewelry she had prepared for her and helped her change into them. She looked radiant.
Then, accompanied by everyone, he went to the front yard to pay a visit to Mr. Zhou.
Mr. Zhou was very polite and even had someone prepare a gift for her. He said, "Although Wenruo has lost her parents, her uncle and aunt are still alive. I have sent someone to deliver a letter, and they will be here later.
"This is now a formal meeting between the two families."
Then he said to Qin Ying, "Don't worry about dinner. I have asked someone to call the chef from the mansion. We have to prepare a good banquet tonight so that my mother-in-law can also taste the flavors of the capital.
"Go and have a good chat with your mother-in-law. You haven't seen her for such a long time, so you must have a lot to talk about."
Seeing this, Aunt Zhao was finally relieved.
An hour later, Mr. and Mrs. Zhou Er came with their children, but Zhou Yu was busy and had to come again tomorrow.
In the evening, everyone had a happy meal together and got along very well with each other. Aunt Zhao's reservedness also disappeared with the meal.
Starting from the second day, Aunt Zhao followed Qin Ying to work in the fields.
Old Master Zhou, dressed in shorts, would occasionally come to help, asking questions if he encountered any problems he didn't understand, but most of the time he was with An An, either digging wild vegetables, catching insects, or playing games with a group of children.
But An An doesn’t play the whole day. If he plays in the morning, he has to stay home to do homework in the afternoon. If he does homework in the morning, he can go out to play in the afternoon.
Grandpa Zhou accompanies the students in class and occasionally acts as a teacher.
Zhou Yu arrived before lunch. When Aunt Zhao saw that he had lost a lot of weight, she said distressedly, "Are you too busy here to have a good meal? Yingzi is really something. Why doesn't she take good care of you?"
"How can I blame her for this?" Zhou Yu said hurriedly, "I'm already an adult, why do I need others to take care of every detail?
"It's really because I have too many orders from above, and they are too complicated. I often miss meal times, so I have lost some weight.
"Don't worry, after a while, everything will be back on track and I can rest. I'm young and I can recover after a few days of eating."
Aunt Zhao nodded and said, "I brought a lot of wild delicacies this time. You and your grandfather, uncle, and aunt can have them cooked for you. They are very nutritious."
Zhou Yu thanked her quickly and asked her about the journey and the situation in Tongshutun.
He only had one meal and then left in a hurry.
Aunt Zhao privately lamented to Qin Ying, "He used to be busy, but never this busy! It's not right for you newlyweds to be so separated from each other all the time!"
Then he quietly asked, "Are your in-laws urging you to have a child?"
