Chapter 314 I prefer coffee shops

Chapter 314 I prefer coffee shops

Li Yuejiao's smile faded slightly. She picked up her wine glass, took a sip of the deep red liquid, and her eyes held a hint of seriousness and complexity: "Being an assassin... is indeed our main profession. But as you know, 'Black Spider' has its bottom line when it comes to taking jobs. We only deal with those who truly deserve to die, the scum for whom the law might not be able to touch. But in this world, there are many more like that client who was harassed just now, or like Xu Yun, whom you told me about... The dangers they face often come from dark corners where the law cannot yet provide timely and effective punishment."

Her fingers tapped lightly on the glass, making a crisp sound: "The police can't protect everyone 24/7. Many injuries, especially to women, often happen in the minutes or seconds before the police arrive. 'Rock Security'... is my way of making amends. I want to use the power I have to fill some gaps and nip those dangerous signs in the bud."

Her gaze fell on several young girls dancing happily on the dance floor, "especially wanting to protect them as much as possible so that they can walk home with peace of mind, without fear."

Lin Yue listened quietly, watching the rare, unvarnished seriousness in Li Yuejiao's eyes, a seriousness devoid of all pretense and cynicism. The bar's psychedelic lights flickered on her face, unable to conceal the inner determination within her. She picked up her orange juice and gently touched it to the side of Li Yuejiao's glass.

"Ding."

A soft sound.

"It's good." Lin Yue said only two words, her tone calm, yet carrying an unspoken affirmation.

Li Yue smiled, her smile even more genuine and bright than before, as if she had received the most important recognition.

She tilted her head back and took a big gulp of her drink, then resumed her languid demeanor, leaning back in her chair, swirling her glass, and looked at Lin Yue: "By the way, Yueyue, what do you think of my bar? Is it even a little bit better than last time?" She blinked, a hint of anticipation in her eyes.

Lin Yue looked around. The deafening music, the thrashing of the crowd, the complex smells in the air, the lingering ambiguous flirting in the corner… everything was exactly the same bar she remembered. And then there was that drunkard's interruption…

She looked away from Li Yuejiao and shook her head very honestly: "No. I still don't like it here. It's too noisy, too messy, the smell is awful, the atmosphere..."

She carefully considered her words. "It's too open and direct. What happened with that person just now only made my impression of this place worse." She paused, then added, "In comparison, I prefer a quiet coffee shop. A cup of coffee, a book, or just doing nothing and daydreaming is more comfortable than being here."

Li Yuejiao's expectation instantly vanished, like a deflated balloon. She sighed dramatically, "Sigh... I knew it! Your personality is just not compatible with this place! Fine, fine, you can't force a relationship."

Her eyes lit up, and she suddenly perked up again. She leaned closer to Lin Yue and said mysteriously, "So... you like coffee shops, right? Wait! Tomorrow... no! Next week! Next week I'll go and find a shop and open a quiet, high-class coffee shop, how about that? I guarantee no noise, no weird smells, just the aroma of coffee and books! You'll come and support me every day!"

Seeing her enthusiastic expression, Lin Yue's lips curved upwards almost imperceptibly, but she didn't respond to her obviously impromptu joke.

The two chatted about trivial matters, with Li Yuejiao making witty remarks and Lin Yue occasionally responding, creating a relaxed atmosphere. When their drinks were almost empty, Li Yuejiao seemingly casually brought up the question she was truly concerned about.

"Oh, by the way," she put down her wine glass, leaned forward slightly, and looked at him with a hint of gossip and barely perceptible inquiry in her eyes, "How's my silly little brother... Li Yuetian, getting along with you at school lately? Has he been causing you any trouble?"

Lin Yue paused for a moment, her hand holding the orange juice glass still. She thought for a few seconds before giving a very Lin Yue-style assessment: "He's very good. A very responsible classmate sitting in front of you, and also... a very good friend."

“A very good friend…” Li Yuejiao silently repeated these four words in her heart. Looking at Lin Yue’s calm and expressionless eyes, which were completely devoid of any romantic emotions, she suddenly felt a sense of disappointment and frustration churning in her chest.

She picked up her glass and downed the last drop of deep red liquid in one gulp, as if to encourage herself.

"Hello, my friend! Friends are the foundation of revolutionary friendship!" Li Yuejiao put down her empty glass, and a smile returned to her face. However, this smile carried a hint of sharpening her knife, and her eyes shone with an astonishing brightness, as if she had instantly devised a grand "battle plan" in her mind.

"My younger brother is a bit slow and stubborn, but he has a pure heart! Yueyue, please be understanding! I need to have a good 'talk' with him later and teach him how to be a more 'good' friend!"

She deliberately emphasized "exchange ideas" and "competent," her eyes gleaming with a sly light. She was already planning how to give her clueless younger brother a "crash course in love," or perhaps create some kind of "unexpected surprise."

Lin Yue looked at the burning "fighting spirit" in her eyes, then glanced at her empty orange juice glass, and decided it was about time. She stood up: "I should go back."

"You're leaving already?" Li Yuejiao stood up as well, a little reluctant. "Won't you sit a little longer? I'll have them make you a fresh cup?"

"No, thank you." Lin Yue shook her head, her gaze sweeping over the still noisy and hazy dance floor. "The air here gives me a headache if I breathe it for too long."

Li Yuejiao helplessly shrugged: "Fine, fine, I know you're precious! Be careful on the road! I'll let you know first when the coffee shop opens!"

Lin Yue nodded, turned around, and once again, like a fish swimming upstream, she passed through the overlapping noisy crowds and dazzling lights, heading towards the heavy door of the bar.

The moment she pushed open the door, the cool, slightly noisy street air rushed into her nostrils, causing her to involuntarily take a deep breath.

Just then, a boutique coffee shop on the street corner that was still open caught her eye. Warm yellow light streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows, illuminating the simple, comfortable sofas and the few customers quietly reading or chatting.

The air seemed to be filled with a faint aroma of roasted coffee, a stark contrast to the murky atmosphere of the bar earlier.

Lin Yue unconsciously stopped in her tracks, gazing quietly through the glass window at the peaceful scene inside. The warm yellow light reflected in her clear eyes, dispelling the last trace of restlessness remaining in the bar.

Indeed, this kind of place suits her better.
