Chapter 312 Judgment
Chapter 312 Judgment
Yunyi pushed open the door to his home, and only a floor lamp was lit in the living room.
Lin Yue had returned long ago. She sat on the sofa, leaning back lazily, her long, fair legs casually crossed and resting on the edge of the coffee table, her bare feet glistening under the light.
She had her head down, engrossed in playing on her phone.
Yun Yi walked in with unsteady steps, the sound of the door closing echoing clearly in the quiet living room. He lowered his head, trying to hide the lingering blush on his face and the confusion in his eyes, but his bright red ears and obvious absent-mindedness had already betrayed him.
"You're back?" Lin Yue didn't even look up, her fingers still swiping across the screen.
"Hmm..." Yun Yi responded vaguely, his gaze involuntarily drifting towards the sofa. He didn't dare look at Lin Yue's face, but his eyes were drawn to her feet, which were casually resting on the edge of the coffee table, as if by a magnet.
His small, rounded toes were adorable, his ankles were slender, and his skin was dazzlingly white under the light. His face flushed instantly again, and he hurriedly looked away, staring at the tips of his shoes.
“Um… Sister Lin Yue…” Yun Yi’s voice was terribly dry, with a guilty embarrassment, “Xu Yun… she was taken away by the police… Brother Zhuang is here too…”
"Yes, I chatted with him for a while too." Lin Yue finally put down her phone, and the screen went dark. "I didn't know you were in trouble at first. Later, when I found out you hadn't come back all afternoon, I felt something was wrong, so I went after you and notified Brother Zhuang as well." She turned her head slightly, a hint of amusement in her voice.
"Yunyi, you're quite something, at such a young age..." Lin Yue's voice carried a hint of lazy teasing, with a slight rise in the tone at the end, "and you've already been 'liked' by two girls?"
She deliberately added a subtle weight to the word "like," clearly indicating that she was referring to Jiang Feifei and Xu Yun.
Yun Yi looked up abruptly, like a cat whose tail had been stepped on. He met Lin Yue's all-knowing eyes, which held a playful smile. His face instantly turned as red as a boiled shrimp, and even the roots of his neck turned red!
"No...no! Sister Lin Yue, you...you're talking nonsense!" He stammered, waving his hands frantically, wishing he could disappear into a crack in the ground. "Xu Yun...she just...she just thanked me! That...that doesn't count! It doesn't count as liking! And...who else?! Where did these two come from?!"
His frantic explanations echoed in the living room, sounding particularly weak and feeble. Lin Yue watched his helpless, flushed face, and her smile deepened.
She picked up her phone again, tapped the screen with her fingertips, and her gaze returned to the lit screen.
"Okay, okay, it doesn't count." Her voice was light and airy, with a perfunctory smile, but her eyes never left her phone. "You know the truth in your heart."
Silence fell over the living room once more, broken only by the deafening pounding of Yun Yi's heart. Looking at Lin Yue's nonchalant, as if nothing had happened, and then at his own utterly embarrassed state, a surge of inexplicable shame and even more chaotic emotions welled up within him.
He ran back to his room in shame and anger, shutting out the light from the living room and the person who made him feel uneasy.
"Sigh, I can't stand being teased." Lin Yue shook her head and ignored him.
Yunyi has locked himself in his room for several days now, and even the sound of him playing games has a listless, muffled quality to it.
Xu Yun was not prosecuted in the end, but given that her power had disappeared and the brutality of the killing that night, she was still sent to a juvenile detention center for necessary supervision and psychological counseling.
On the day the verdict was handed down, Yun Yi sat silently in his room for the entire afternoon. Lin Yue could feel the heavy, oppressive atmosphere even through the door.
She didn't knock on the door, nor did she offer any words of comfort. Some emotions need to be processed slowly on their own; forcing others to intervene only adds to the burden.
The school bell rang as usual, and Lin Yue, carrying her schoolbag, joined the crowd of students leaving school alone. She habitually chose the relatively quiet, slightly longer, tree-lined path to go home.
Just as she turned a street corner, preparing to take a shortcut through an old residential area, a hurried figure not far ahead caught her attention.
She was a middle-aged woman dressed in a well-fitting business suit, carrying a briefcase. She walked quickly, with a hint of tension on her face, and occasionally looked back.
What made Lin Yue narrow her eyes even more was that about ten meters behind the woman, two tall, well-built young men in casual suits were following her at a distance that was neither too close nor too far. Their steps seemed casual, but their eyes were like precise probes, firmly locked on the target ahead.
One of them had a sharply defined profile and a high nose bridge, while the other had deep-set eyes and brows, giving him a mixed-race look—objectively speaking, they were quite handsome. But their tracking skills, while not bad, were simply too conspicuous in Lin Yue's eyes.
Lin Yue's steps barely faltered as she naturally adjusted her direction, like a curious student strolling around after school, seemingly unintentionally turning into a narrower alleyway that could only accommodate one person at a time.
Her figure blurred, moving so fast it seemed to blend into the shadows of the alley. The next second, she had silently appeared a few meters behind the two "handsome guys."
Just as the two were about to catch up with the woman again and turn at the next intersection—
"Hey."
A clear, cold voice rang out behind them without warning.
The two of them froze abruptly, as if a pause button had been pressed, stopping in their tracks instantly, their muscles tensing as they turned around warily.
When they saw Lin Yue emerge from the shadows, their tense expressions instantly turned to astonishment, followed by undisguised respect.
"Miss Lin!" The two spoke almost simultaneously, bowing slightly and adopting a very humble posture.
"What are you doing?" Lin Yue's gaze swept across their faces, then glanced at the target who had already disappeared around the corner. "Following? When did Li Yuejiao's business expand to this kind of stalking in the streets and alleys?"
Upon hearing this, one of the handsome men with a high nose bridge gave a helpless yet professionally proud smile and quickly explained, "Ms. Lin has misunderstood. The lady in front of us is a client of 'Rock Security'. Recently, she has been feeling that someone is following her suspiciously on her way home from get off work. She reported it to the police but they couldn't catch her in the act. She was really scared, so she placed an order with our company for a personal escort service."
The handsome mixed-race man with deep-set eyes next to him added with a smile, his tone relaxed: "Well, that's why Sister Jiao sent us out. We just took on this job not long ago, and we're still getting familiar with the client's routes and habits. Please forgive us, Miss Lin." He scratched his head, and his gaze towards Lin Yue, besides respect, seemed to hide a subtle, almost imperceptible, admiration for someone strong.
