Chapter 109 Medical Treatment
Chapter 109 Medical Treatment
Accompanied by a loud bang, a woman's high-pitched and loud scream rang out:
"Where is she? Where is Feng Qingqing? Didn't you see someone come in for a medical check-up? Why aren't you coming out to greet them? She's always in the clinic and never gets out of bed. I don't know what she's doing."
Feng Qingqing, who had already stood up to go out and see what was going on, sat down again after hearing what the man said, picked up her book and continued reading, completely ignoring what the woman in the courtyard was saying.
Although Feng Qingqing didn't get up, she started to think about who this person who came to cause trouble was. The only people in the brigade who were unfriendly to her were the brigade leader's wife, Ye Dahua, and her group. She had specifically remembered their names when Hu Fangming mentioned them. After thinking for a while and getting a general idea of the group, she sat quietly and waited for them to come over.
Then they heard a series of hurried footsteps coming from the courtyard, and it sounded like at least two people had entered.
But after hearing the woman's voice, the person who came with her did not speak up to stop her, which meant that even if they did not support her, they tacitly approved of her. Feng Qingqing understood this slightly.
A short while later, two people entered the main room. The first one to enter was a man, who was holding a child who looked to be seven or eight years old. The child's face was an abnormal flush, and he was probably in some discomfort, as he kept moving around.
Next to enter was a woman, who was about thirty years old. Feng Qingqing knew who she was the moment she saw her.
The woman's husband's family also had the surname Xiong. They were from the same family as the brigade leader's brother. Because the man she married was the second oldest, most people in the brigade called her Sister-in-law Xiong the Second. Feng Qingqing remembered her because among those who played with Ye Dahua, Sister-in-law Xiong the Second spoke the most harshly and was the most sarcastic.
When the couple entered, they found Feng Qingqing sitting quietly on the stool behind the counter. Xiong Ersao immediately objected, raising her voice slightly as she reprimanded her:
“Feng Qingqing, what’s wrong with you? Didn’t you hear us talking outside? Do you sit here like a king when patients come to see you? I think the commune hospital should have been more careful when they appointed the health workers at the clinic. It’s not a job that just anyone can do.”
He finished speaking and gave a cold snort.
Seeing that her words were becoming increasingly harsh, Xiong Ersao's husband, who was holding the child beside her, tugged at her sleeve. Xiong Ersao reluctantly pursed her lips, tilted her head to the side, and stopped talking.
The man was helpless against Xiong Ersao's consistent behavior. It must be said that Xiong Ersao was not an easy person to deal with even when she was in her parents' home. Later, she was introduced to Xiong Lao Er and married him. Because Xiong Lao Er was related to the brigade leader's family, and Xiong Ersao tried her best to curry favor with the brigade leader's wife, Ye Dahua, although the two were quite different in age, Xiong Ersao knew how to flatter and speak nicely, and Ye Dahua had always valued her highly.
With the support of the brigade leader's family, Xiong Ersao could speak with impunity throughout the brigade. Others in the brigade knew her personality and mostly didn't argue with her, which led to Xiong Ersao becoming increasingly arrogant and domineering in the brigade.
But Feng Qingqing wasn't buying it and directly confronted her:
"I was appointed and dismissed after a formal examination by the commune hospital. It's not something that just anyone can criticize."
“If you think I have done something wrong, you can report me to the brigade headquarters or the commune hospital. But if there is no real evidence, then it is slander. I will also go to the brigade to ask how people who slander me are dealt with. If the brigade cannot handle it, then I will also go to the commune to ask. Is there no one in the commune who upholds justice?”
Sister-in-law Xiong realized that although the girl was young, she had a sharp tongue and was not afraid of trouble. Her arrogance immediately subsided, since her biggest support was the brigade leader's family.
But Xiong Ersao was still somewhat unwilling and was about to retort when her husband quietly stopped her:
"That's enough, taking care of the baby is the priority."
Upon hearing this, Xiong Ersao remembered that her son Erdan was still running a high fever. This was not the time to argue with Feng Qingqing, so she rolled her eyes and remained silent.
Xiong Ersao's husband quickly prepared to bring the child to Feng Qingqing so that Feng Qingqing could see the child's condition more closely.
Feng Qingqing waved her hand, slowly stood up from the stool, walked slowly to the stool in the middle of the main room and sat down, then had the man bring the child over and sit down beside her.
She checked the child's eyelids, touched the child's forehead; it was very hot. She got up and took a thermometer from the first-aid kit, placing it under the child's armpit.
Xiong Ersao, who had been watching Feng Qingqing intently the whole time, finally couldn't hold back any longer and continued speaking, seeing Feng Qingqing's unhurried movements:
"Can you hurry up? Can't you see my Erdan has a high fever? You'd better treat him properly, or you'll regret it."
Feng Qingqing was furious upon hearing this. He slammed his hand on the counter, turned around, and stared intently at Xiong Ersao, saying coldly:
"If you think I can't cure you, you can go out and turn left, take an oxcart for forty minutes to the commune hospital, where there are more skilled doctors."
After saying that, he turned around and sat back down on the stool, pointing to the door with his left hand as he continued:
"It's easy to leave without seeing him off."
After saying that, Feng Qingqing snorted inwardly, "I won't tolerate you. Take it or leave it. I'm begging you to watch."
Sister-in-law Xiong's face immediately turned ugly after Feng Qingqing's words, and she stammered for a long time without being able to say a word.
The man glared fiercely at Xiong Ersao, then turned to Feng Qingqing and said ingratiatingly:
"Dr. Feng, this woman doesn't know how to talk, please don't take it personally. My son has a high fever, please take a look."
Feng Qingqing remained silent, but glanced at the woman.
The man understood and quickly scolded in a low voice:
"You are not allowed to speak anymore."
Only then did Xiong Ersao have no choice but to behave herself.
Feng Qingqing snorted, but seeing that the child still had a high fever, she didn't argue with her anymore.
Initial examination revealed that the child had a high fever of over 39 degrees Celsius, and it was learned that the child had been experiencing intermittent fever for more than two days.
In this situation, Feng Qingqing immediately said to the child's father:
"I'll prescribe some fever reducer for the child first. When you get home, give the child plenty of water. You can also gently wipe the area around the child's neck, armpits, soles of the feet, and palms with alcohol. This will make the fever reduction more effective."
Moreover, he paused before continuing:
"I suggest you take your child to the commune hospital for another check-up. Your child has had a fever for more than two days, which could very well lead to pneumonia. If it is pneumonia, then hospitalization is necessary. You should go back and think about it again."
