Chapter 222: Careful Testing
Chapter 222: Careful Testing
Luxury apartment, slightly cool at night
When Lin Chuyue emerged from the Western restaurant, night had fallen. The city's neon lights reflected in her eyes, creating a hazy, dreamlike effect. The streets were still bustling with traffic, but the daytime hustle and bustle had given way to a sense of tranquility.
Lin Chuyue stood by the roadside, slightly raising her head to look at the man beside her. Li Zhanchuan's profile was sharp, and his deep-set eyes were bathed in a soft glow under the lamplight. He bent down to shield her from the cool evening breeze, and his steady and natural action unconsciously gave her the illusion of being cared for.
"Shall I take you home?" His voice was deep, carrying the languidness unique to the night.
Lin Chuyue smiled slightly, her gaze lingering on his face for a moment before casually tilting her head: "When did President Li start working as a driver?"
Li Zhanchuan's lips curled slightly, a half-smile playing on his lips: "If I can take you home, being your driver isn't out of the question."
Lin Chuyue smiled lightly, her tone nonchalant: "Then I shall respectfully accept your offer."
She wasn't intentionally giving him a chance; she'd just had some red wine today, and it wouldn't be convenient for her to drive home alone. Besides… she also wanted to see how far Li Zhanchuan planned to go.
The car was quiet, yet an ambiguous atmosphere lingered.
The black Maybach drove smoothly through the night, with only soft ambient lighting inside, casting a tranquil glow on the two passengers.
Lin Chuyue leaned back in her chair, her gaze falling on the street scene flashing past the window, but her mind was still replaying the conversation she had just had in the restaurant.
Li Zhanchuan... seemed to be more proactive than she had imagined.
In the past, although his attitude towards her was different from that towards others, he mostly maintained a cold and distant sense of boundaries, and would never express his intentions so directly as he did today.
So—when did the change begin?
Lin Chuyue narrowed her eyes slightly.
She didn't mind accepting Li Zhanchuan's kindness, but she wanted to figure out what he was really thinking.
Probing and Approaching
The car slowly came to a stop in front of the apartment building.
Lin Chuyue unbuckled her seatbelt and was about to open the door to get out of the car when she caught a glimpse of Li Zhanchuan unbuckled his seatbelt as well, seemingly about to follow her out.
She raised an eyebrow, her tone carrying a hint of flirtatious amusement: "Mr. Li, you wouldn't be thinking of escorting me upstairs, would you?"
Li Zhanchuan rested one hand on the steering wheel, tilted his head slightly, and looked at her calmly: "Is there a problem?"
Lin Chuyue chuckled, her gaze falling on his face, and asked with a half-smile, "Deliver to the doorstep? Or inside?"
Li Zhanchuan's eyes flickered slightly, but the curve of his lips remained unchanged, and his voice was deep and magnetic: "What do you think?"
The air became tense for a moment. Lin Chuyue felt his gaze fixed on her, carrying a kind of secretive inquiry.
She smiled and casually said, "Just drop me off at my doorstep."
Li Zhanchuan paused for a second, then smiled gently: "Okay."
He casually pushed open the car door, walked around to the passenger side, and opened the door for her.
Lin Chuyue got out of the car, and Li Zhanchuan stood beside her, naturally shielding her from the night breeze, his presence undeniable.
She didn't rush into the building, but stopped and looked at the man beside her, her tone meaningful: "Mr. Li, isn't what you're doing a bit dangerous?"
Li Zhanchuan glanced sideways, his tone languid: "Danger?"
"Yes." Lin Chuyue's eyes flickered slightly, her tone gentle. "You're too good to me. What if I get used to it one day?"
After listening, Li Zhanchuan narrowed his eyes slightly, his gaze lingering on her face for a moment, then he chuckled softly, his voice low and husky: "Isn't that exactly the result I wanted?"
Lin Chuyue was slightly taken aback, her heart skipped a beat for no apparent reason.
He's always like this; once he gets serious, he doesn't hide his offensive at all, so direct that no one can hide from him.
She chuckled softly, looked away, and stepped into the apartment building. Just before entering, she glanced at him sideways and said, "Goodnight."
Li Zhanchuan stood there, watching her retreating figure, his gaze deep, and he parted his thin lips slightly: "Good night."
Only after her figure completely disappeared behind the door did he turn away, slowly turn around and get into the car, his slender fingers resting on the steering wheel, as if he were thinking about something.
The night was silent, with only the streetlights illuminating his calm profile and casting an unfathomable shadow.
This game seems to be more interesting than he imagined.
