Chapter 82 A Subtle Bond
Chapter 82 A Subtle Bond
As night fell, the city's neon lights began to illuminate the bustling city. Lin Chuyue had just finished a long meeting and walked out of the company building alone. A cold wind blew by, and she wrapped her trench coat tighter around herself.
Just as she was about to get into the car, a familiar voice came from behind her: "Still not home so late?"
Lin Chuyue stopped what she was doing, turned around, and sure enough, it was Li Zhanchuan. He stood not far away, wearing a well-tailored black overcoat, blending into the night, yet still exuding a unique presence.
"Why is President Li here?" Lin Chuyue asked, somewhat surprised.
"I just happened to be passing by and saw you walking out alone." Li Zhanchuan approached slowly, his tone calm but with a hint of concern. "Working too late is bad for your health."
"There's a lot to do, but it all has to be done." Lin Chuyue smiled faintly, trying to hide her exhaustion.
Li Zhanchuan gazed at her, a hint of heartache in his eyes. His voice was low: "Get in the car, I'll take you home."
"No need, I'll drive myself—"
Before he could finish speaking, Li Zhanchuan had already opened the car door and said in an unquestionable tone, "The road is dangerous, listen to me."
Looking at his expression, Lin Chuyue hesitated slightly, but ultimately got into the car. The warmth inside the car dispelled the chill outside, and the two sat side by side, a tranquil atmosphere filling the air.
"Have you been working too hard lately?" Li Zhanchuan asked while driving, his voice tinged with helplessness. "Whatever the reason, pushing yourself too hard is not a wise choice."
Lin Chuyue chuckled softly: "Aren't you the same? Before you lecture me, think about yourself first."
Li Zhanchuan's lips curled up slightly, but his eyes held a serious expression: "I'm different. I know where my limits are, while you always underestimate your own importance."
These words startled Lin Chuyue slightly. She glanced at him and saw that he was looking straight ahead, focused, and didn't seem to have meant anything by saying those words. But in that instant, a complex emotion welled up inside her.
Meanwhile, Gu Yanchuan was working on documents alone in his study when the doorbell rang, interrupting his thoughts. He got up and opened the door, only to find Luo Yurou standing there, holding a box of delicate pastries.
"Why is it you?" Gu Yanchuan frowned, but there was no real displeasure in his tone.
"Of course it's me." Luo Yurou smiled and waved the snack box in her hand. "Auntie said you're too busy with work and she was afraid you'd forget to eat, so she asked me to bring you some things."
Gu Yanchuan stepped aside to let her in: "She's certainly very concerned."
Luo Yurou changed her shoes and went straight to the living room, skillfully placing the snacks on the table and pouring him a glass of warm water. Gu Yanchuan sat down, watching her actions, and couldn't help but ask, "Are you always so obedient?"
"Not really," Luo Yurou smiled brightly. "I just feel that occasionally showing concern for someone as busy as you is a way of contributing to society."
"Contributing to society?" Gu Yanchuan chuckled softly, a hint of mockery in his eyes. "You're quite good at comforting yourself."
Luo Yurou didn't take it to heart and sat down opposite him, resting her chin on her hand as she looked at him: "Don't always act so aloof. Wouldn't it be nice to relax a little? For example, try these snacks."
Her tone was relaxed, as if she had unintentionally shortened the distance between them. Gu Yanchuan stared at her for a moment, then finally picked up a pastry and put it in his mouth. Although the movement was slow, it appeared exceptionally elegant.
"It tastes good," he commented simply.
“Of course, I picked it.” Luo Yurou’s smile became even brighter. “Since you like it, I’ll bring you something else to try next time.”
Gu Yanchuan shook his head: "You're quite enthusiastic."
"Isn't it better to be more enthusiastic? It's better than treating everyone coldly." Luo Yurou said, a sly glint in her eyes. "But, to be honest, Gu Yanchuan, your personality makes many people feel unapproachable."
"Is that so?" Gu Yanchuan replied calmly, his expression showing little change.
“Yes.” Luo Yurou nodded. “However, I don’t care about these things. I think that as long as you are willing to give people a chance, you will always find that there are actually many trustworthy people around you.”
Her words startled Gu Yanchuan slightly, then he revealed a meaningful smile: "Perhaps you are right."
Back in the car, Li Zhanchuan's tone softened: "Chuyue, I know you always want to solve all your problems on your own, but sometimes you also need to learn to rely on others."
"Rely on others?" Lin Chuyue gently shook her head, a faint smile playing on her lips. "Who do you think I should rely on? My father, or... you?"
Li Zhanchuan did not answer immediately, but paused for a moment before slowly saying, "If you are willing, I am always here."
His voice was deep and firm, and as Lin Chuyue listened, a slight ripple stirred in her heart. This wasn't the first time she'd heard similar words, but hearing them from Li Zhanchuan's mouth gave her an indescribable warmth.
She turned to look out the window; the night was still enchanting, but her heart was filled with complex emotions. She knew that Li Zhanchuan's existence seemed to be slowly changing her life.
In Gu Yanchuan's life, Luo Yurou continued to play the role of a sunny presence. She didn't rush to bridge the gap between them, but instead gradually approached him in her own way.
One day, she suddenly invited him to a farm in the suburbs, saying it was to experience life. Gu Yanchuan wanted to refuse, but Luo Yurou's persistence and enthusiasm ultimately made him compromise.
“You’ll thank me for this suggestion,” Luo Yurou said with a smile, her eyes full of anticipation. “You always live in such a cold and impersonal environment, so consider this a chance to relax.”
Looking at her, Gu Yanchuan suddenly felt that her presence seemed to offer a glimmer of ease to his constantly tense world.
Two intertwined emotions are quietly unfolding, and this may only be the beginning.
