Chapter 53 The Turmoil Has Not Yet Subsided
Lin Chuyue sat in her office, her gaze fixed on a thick document on her desk. The words "Fund Flow Analysis Report" on the cover were chilling. This was the investigation result Gu Yanchuan had given her last night, and every line of data was like a sharp blade aimed directly at the company's lifeline.
The phone on the table rang, and she picked it up: "What is it?"
The secretary's voice came from the other end: "President Lin, CFO Li Gang is here. He says he has something important to report."
"Let him in." Lin Chuyue hung up the phone, closed the file, and her expression gradually hardened.
When Li Gang entered, he appeared somewhat reserved, but his expression was more serious. He handed a document to Lin Chuyue and said in a low voice, "President Lin, I checked the company accounts again this morning, and there are some issues that I'm afraid you need to deal with as soon as possible."
Lin Chuyue took the document, flipped through it carefully, and her brows gradually furrowed: "Are these transaction records all from projects that Shen Fang was previously in charge of?"
“That’s right.” Li Gang nodded. “These accounts seem fine on the surface, but upon closer inspection, we found that the flow of funds in several transactions was very unusual, especially in this company—Haisheng International.” He pointed to one of the names and continued, “This is a shell company registered overseas, but large sums of money flow in every now and then.”
Lin Chuyue closed the file and said coldly, "Can you find out where this money ultimately went?"
Li Gang shook his head: "Currently, we've only locked down its receiving account. We'll need more time to find out who's behind it. But I suspect this company is just one link in the chain, and there may be more clandestine transactions involved."
“Continue the investigation. Also,” Lin Chuyue raised her eyes, her gaze sharp, “no one but me can see this report.”
Li Gang nodded immediately: "Understood, I will keep it confidential."
Lin Chuyue pondered for a moment, then added, "Has President Gu contacted you?"
“President Gu?” Li Gang was taken aback. “We haven’t been in direct contact, but I know he might have more detailed information.”
“Okay.” Lin Chuyue nodded, her tone firm. “I will personally liaise with him. You will be responsible for keeping a close eye on these transactions for the time being.”
That evening, Lin Chuyue was about to leave the company when her phone rang. It was Gu Yanchuan calling.
"Chuyue," Gu Yanchuan's deep and steady voice came through the phone, "Li Gang should have given you the information on Haisheng International by now, right?"
“Yes, I’ve already looked at it.” Lin Chuyue leaned back in her chair and rubbed her temples. “But this information isn’t comprehensive. I suspect you have more in-depth clues.”
Gu Yanchuan chuckled on the other end of the phone: "As expected, you can't hide it from me. That's right, I recently had someone investigate and found out that Haisheng International is a cover; the real problem lies in the flow of funds at its next level."
"Get to the point," Lin Chuyue interrupted directly.
Gu Yanchuan paused, his voice becoming more serious: "The next level of fund flow points to a more secretive company called Kerry Group. This company is not registered in China, but it frequently appears in the files of certain international money laundering cases. It can be said that it is directly controlled by Xiao Ning, Shen Fang's behind-the-scenes manipulator."
"Xiao Ning?" Lin Chuyue was slightly taken aback. "Shen Fang's supplier?"
“That’s right,” Gu Yanchuan said in a low voice. “This is the most crucial step. Xiao Ning used Kerry Group as a cover to transfer all the funds that Shen Fang couldn’t explain. And I discovered that they will have a large transaction tomorrow night, which is the best time for us to close the net.”
Lin Chuyue's gaze sharpened, her voice calm yet carrying a sense of pressure: "What do you need me to do?"
“It’s very simple.” Gu Yanchuan’s voice was as calm as ever. “We will set a trap to make Xiao Ning think that the funds are safe and sound, but in reality, we will intercept everything at the key points of the fund flow.”
"and then?"
"Then you will personally expose the true face of the Kerry Group." Gu Yanchuan's tone was low but carried a hint of certainty. "Only you can accomplish this step."
Lin Chuyue was silent for a moment, then sneered, "You always dump the hardest parts on me."
“Because I trust you.” Gu Yanchuan’s tone softened slightly on the other end of the phone. “Moreover, this step is crucial.”
"Okay," Lin Chuyue said softly, "I will make sure he has nowhere to escape."
Meanwhile, in another corner of the city.
Xiao Ning sat in a dimly lit room, various data flashing on the computer screen in front of him. His assistant stood beside him, his tone slightly uneasy: "Mr. Xiao, several of our accounts have been monitored recently, and two transactions were almost intercepted."
Xiao Ning frowned slightly and asked coldly, "Who is investigating?"
“It must be one of Gu Yanchuan’s men,” the assistant answered cautiously. “His actions were very discreet; we almost didn’t notice.”
Xiao Ning sneered, a hint of ruthlessness in her eyes: "Gu Yanchuan? He's quite clever. However, he's not qualified to block my way."
"Mr. Xiao, what about the fund transaction tomorrow night..."
"Proceed as planned." Xiao Ning waved his hand, his tone leaving no room for doubt. "Let them know what happens when they go against me."
The following evening, under Gu Yanchuan's arrangement, Lin Chuyue entered the surveillance range of the Kerry Group. Looking at the constantly fluctuating data on the computer screen, a cold glint flashed in her eyes.
"Gu Yanchuan," she whispered, "Are you sure you can catch Xiao Ning's weakness at this point?"
Gu Yanchuan stood beside her, his gaze calm and composed: "Don't worry, I've been planning this for so long, there won't be any mistakes."
Lin Chuyue snorted coldly: "I hope so."
The numbers on the computer screen suddenly stopped jumping, and then an account transaction record popped up. Lin Chuyue narrowed her eyes and pressed the record button: "Gotcha."
"Now it's up to you," Gu Yanchuan said in a low voice.
Lin Chuyue nodded, a cold smile playing on her lips: "Xiao Ning, this time, you can't escape."
The situation was gradually becoming clearer, but both Lin Chuyue and Gu Yanchuan knew that this was only the beginning of a larger conspiracy. Meanwhile, on the other side, Xiao Ning seemed to be secretly plotting his counterattack…
