Chapter 13 Emergency Call
Chapter 13 Emergency Call
As night fell, Lin Chuyue buried herself in her work in her office, a mountain of documents piled up in her hands. From her encounter with Zhou Ming a few days prior, she had realized that Shen Fang might be part of a much larger conspiracy. She couldn't stand idly by; she had to take action.
Suddenly, her phone screen lit up with an unfamiliar number. Lin Chuyue took a deep breath and pressed the answer button: "Hello?"
On the other end of the phone, Zhou Ming's voice came through, slightly suppressed: "Miss Lin, it's me, Zhou Ming. I... I have something I need to talk to you about."
"What is it?" Lin Chuyue put down the documents in her hand, her tone calm, but a sense of vigilance had already risen in her heart.
"Could we meet tonight?" Zhou Ming's tone was tinged with anxiety. "There are some things I can no longer tolerate. You need to know the truth about President Shen's matter."
Lin Chuyue raised an eyebrow, a sense of unease beginning to creep into her heart. She knew that Zhou Ming's words were definitely related to Shen Fang, and perhaps this was the breakthrough she was looking for. "Okay, see you at Star Moon Cafe at seven tonight." After saying that, she hung up the phone.
Inside the Starry Moon Café, the lighting was dim, and several customers were talking quietly in a corner. Lin Chuyue arrived on time and sat by the window, waiting quietly. After more than ten minutes, Zhou Ming rushed in, looking flustered, his eyes darting around, and an uneasy atmosphere filled the air.
"Assistant Zhou, please sit down." Lin Chuyue gestured to the seat opposite her, her tone gentle, but her eyes held a hint of scrutiny.
Zhou Ming hurriedly sat down, staring at the coffee on the table, and said in a low voice, "Ms. Lin, I really can't tolerate Mr. Shen's matter any longer." His tone was full of helplessness and anxiety, as if he had made some difficult decision.
Lin Chuyue looked at him, her gaze darkening slightly. After a moment of silence, she asked, "Do you know what she's doing?"
“She…she’s not just a businessman.” Zhou Ming’s voice trembled slightly. “President Shen has a very powerful force behind her. The flow of these funds is no longer just a matter for the company.” He paused, lowered his head, as if he had made up his mind. “President Shen has connections with some overseas forces. She is transferring funds internationally, involving many things that cannot be made public.”
Lin Chuyue's eyes widened slightly, and a sense of doubt and vigilance rose in her heart, but she remained calm on the surface. "Why are you only telling me these things now?"
Zhou Ming looked up, a hint of unease in his eyes. "President Shen knows I know all this. She's starting to suspect me, and the pressure on her has been mounting lately. I... I don't know how much longer I can keep this a secret." His hands gripped the edge of the table tightly, his expression extremely tense. "She's accelerating these operations, even preparing to transfer some funds to a secret trust fund for a bigger future plan."
A cold glint flashed in Lin Chuyue's eyes. She didn't respond immediately, but stared intently at Zhou Ming. "You want to tell me all this because you want me to stop her?"
Zhou Ming's expression shifted slightly, a complex emotion flashing in his eyes. "I..." he stammered, seemingly hesitant, but still nodded. "President Shen's plans have crossed the line in business. I... I don't want to get involved anymore." His voice was almost inaudible. "Her ambitions extend beyond the company."
Lin Chuyue listened quietly, a slight sense of relief washing over her. She didn't reveal much emotion, but said in a low voice, "I understand, you don't need to say anything more." She could sense that Zhou Ming was indeed somewhat emotionally broken; he wasn't entirely loyal to Shen Fang, but he wasn't completely free from her control either.
At this moment, Lin Chuyue was unaware that Shen Fang was standing silently in a corner not far away, observing everything through the glass window.
