Chapter 36 Monster Carnival
Chapter Thirty-Six: The Monster Carnival
Liu Yu and his companions bid farewell to the village filled with both joy and awkwardness, and, dragging their slightly weary bodies, continued their long journey to find the lost magical artifact. Along the way, the scenery was pleasant—green mountains and clear waters, birdsong and fragrant flowers—but their stomachs rumbled loudly, as if playing a symphony of hunger.
"Oh dear, my stomach is rumbling like an empty city. When will I get something to eat? I feel like I could eat a whole cow!" Liu Yu muttered with a worried expression, rubbing her flat stomach.
Looking at his pitiful appearance, Bai Suzhen couldn't help but laugh and said, "You, all you know is food. Don't you see that this is the middle of nowhere? There's no good food here. Stop thinking about such things and hurry up and get going."
As they were talking, a bustling little town suddenly appeared ahead. In the distance, it was shrouded in mist, and the sounds of laughter and chatter could be heard constantly.
"Wow, this is great! Maybe there's something good to eat in this town!" Xiaoqing's eyes lit up with excitement, and she ran over like the wind.
They entered the town, only to find it rather strange. They had expected a bustling crowd, but the streets were deserted. Instead, a group of bizarre monsters were having a wild party, creating a scene of utter chaos.
"What's going on? Is this a gathering of monsters? Have I stumbled into a monster world?" Liu Yu's eyes widened, and her mouth was agape enough to fit an egg.
A monster with rabbit ears saw them and greeted them with a grin, saying enthusiastically, "Hey, humans, come and play! Don't just stand there like an idiot, it's so boring!"
Liu Yu was so frightened that she took several steps back, almost tripping, and stammered, "Play? I wouldn't dare play with you! What if you eat me?"
The rabbit monster grabbed him tightly, so strong that Liu Yu couldn't break free, and said, "Don't be afraid, don't be afraid. Today is the Monster Carnival. Everyone is very friendly and won't hurt you!"
Just then, a monkey monster jumped out from the crowd, holding a large bunch of bananas, and shouted loudly, "Come on, let's have a banana-eating contest! Whoever eats them the fastest wins!"
Upon hearing this, Liu Yu thought to herself, "I'm good at this! I won't lose when it comes to eating!" So she gritted her teeth and participated in the competition.
The competition began, and Liu Yu frantically stuffed bananas into his mouth, his cheeks puffing out like balloons. But the monkey monster was no pushover either; it ate incredibly fast, stuffing bananas into its mouth with both hands, its cheeks puffing out even more than Liu Yu's.
"Oh dear, I can't take it anymore!" Liu Yu finally gave in, splattering banana crumbs all over the floor.
Xiaoqing laughed so hard she couldn't straighten up, pointing at Liu Yu and saying, "Brother-in-law, you're so useless! You dare to participate in the competition with this kind of talent? You're a disgrace!"
Suddenly, a fat pig demon came running over, panting heavily, and said, "Let's have a contest to see who snores the loudest!"
Liu Yu looked completely bewildered, her eyes wide as she asked, "How can you compare these? You can even have a snoring contest?"
Before Liu Yu could react, the pig demon had already sprawled on the ground, snoring loudly. The snoring was deafening, like thunder, making everything around it tremble.
Liu Yu couldn't help but complain, "That's not snoring, it's thunder! I think the house is going to collapse from the shock!"
Everyone was having a great time when a cunning fox demon swayed over, carrying a large box, and said mysteriously, "Don't just play, we also have a lucky draw!"
Liu Yu curiously leaned closer, craning her neck to peer into the box, and asked, "A lottery? What good stuff could there be? Is it some kind of scam?"
The fox demon blinked, revealing a sly smile, and said, "Whatever you draw is what you get; it all depends on luck! If you're lucky, you might draw a treasure!"
Liu Yu reached out with some skepticism and pulled out a pair of enormous shoes, so big they could practically be used as boats.
"What is this? What would I do with it? I'm not a giant!" Liu Yu held the shoes, both amused and exasperated, her face scrunched up in a grimace.
Bai Suzhen smiled and said, "Maybe it will be useful in the future, don't be so quick to dismiss it."
Just then, the system suddenly spoke up: "Host, we've found a clue. The magic weapon might be in a cave outside the town."
Upon hearing this, Liu Yu's eyes lit up, and she quickly pulled everyone aside, saying, "Let's stop playing, let's go find the magic weapon! We have important business to attend to!"
The monsters were not happy about this and surrounded them to stop them.
"Don't go! Let's play a little longer! It's so lively here, we can find the magic treasure anytime!"
Liu Yu shook her head firmly and said, "No, no, the magic weapon is the most important. I'll come back and play with you guys after I find it!"
They finally managed to shake off the monsters and arrived at the cave. The cave looked eerie and terrifying; it was pitch black inside, without a single ray of light, and strange noises could be heard from time to time, as if something was whispering.
"Is there anything scary in this cave? I'm getting a chill down my spine." Xu Xian's voice trembled with fear as he gripped Liu Yu's clothes tightly.
Liu Yu swallowed hard, trying to bolster his courage. Holding a tree branch in his hand, he brandished it like a sword and said, "Don't be afraid, I'll go first! I'll protect you!"
He had only taken a few steps inside when he felt something tugging at his clothes.
"Oh my god! There's a ghost!" Liu Yu jumped up in fright, her hair standing on end.
It turned out to be a mischievous little monster causing trouble, hiding in the darkness and chuckling to itself.
"Stop messing around, stop messing around! We're here to find the magic weapon, not to play with you!" Xiaoqing said irritably.
The little monster blinked and emerged from the darkness, saying, "Magic artifact? I know where it is, but you have to play games with me."
Liu Yu said helplessly, "Fine, what game do you want to play? As long as we can find the magic weapon, I'll play with you."
The little monster exclaimed excitedly, "Hide and seek!"
So everyone played hide-and-seek with the little monster. Liu Yu covered her eyes and started counting.
"one two Three……"
After counting, Liu Yu started searching. He touched and fumbled around in the cave, but after searching for a long time, he still couldn't find it, and he was sweating profusely with anxiety.
"Where did that little monster hide? Is it playing a trick on us on purpose?"
In the end, it was the observant Bai Suzhen who discovered the little demon's hiding place. It turned out that the little demon was hiding behind a large rock and was even chuckling to himself.
The little demon, satisfied, led them to the magical artifact. The artifact emitted a mysterious light, illuminating the entire cave. Just as Liu Yu reached out to grab it, the artifact suddenly flew up.
"Oh dear, this magic weapon can run away!" Liu Yu quickly jumped up and chased after it.
The magical artifact flew around the cave like a mischievous child, leaving everyone breathless.
"Stop running! Stop right now!" Xiaoqing shouted as she chased after them.
Finally, Liu Yu used all his skills and managed to grab the magic weapon.
"Haha, let's see where you can run now!"
Just as they were dancing with joy, the cave suddenly began to shake, and stones of all sizes fell from the cave ceiling, as if it were about to collapse.
"Oh no, run!" Liu Yu shouted.
Everyone ran desperately out, stones tumbling down and kicking up clouds of dust. Just as they emerged from the cave, it collapsed with a deafening roar, sending up another cloud of dust.
"That was close! I almost got buried in there!" Xu Xian gasped for breath, his face pale.
Armed with their magical artifacts, they continued their journey, unaware of what interesting and thrilling adventures awaited them...
