Chapter 28: The British Section - "The Experiment"
Chapter 28: The British Section - "The Experiment"
After a quiet hour in the coffee shop~
Ming sat in a chair in the coffee shop, while Möbius, who had been busy tidying up experimental equipment an hour earlier, slowly walked over.
"Alright~ my dear little lab rat, I've packed up all the experimental equipment. Come on, follow me~" She smiled and waved, and Ming got up and quietly followed.
"Don't ask me to give you an hour to mentally prepare yourself, you're not ready!"
As Möbius led Ming to the café's storage room, he teased softly, "After all, even I can't guarantee the experiment's 100% success, and it could... cost you your life, you know~"
Upon hearing that he might lose his life, Ming, who had initially found the conversation boring, found a smile involuntarily creeping onto his lips. He replied in a slightly excited silence:
"That would be great! That would be great. If that's the case, I, who wasn't particularly interested before, am now unconsciously starting to look forward to it..." Ming's sheep-like eyes glowed red through the blindfold, indicating his anticipation at that moment.
"Wow!" Mobius was slightly taken aback after hearing Ming's words and couldn't help but exclaim, "You really scared me, little mouse. The mice I've seen before all looked terrified when they heard that experiments would kill them. You're really an exception! Are all you [Elves] like this? I'm so curious!"
"No, probably... no, it's just that I have some... obsessions." Ming, who was following behind, silently denied it.
"Is it an obsession?" Möbius's expression became somewhat puzzled. "What kind of obsession is it? Can you tell me? If you tell me, perhaps I can prepare a few more anesthetics for the experiment~"
Ming's eyes deepened, and he remained silent for a long time. It wasn't until the two of them reached a bookshelf at the far end of the storage room that Ming finally spoke slowly, "No need. I don't need anesthetics."
"Sigh, really. You've piqued my interest but then you don't say anything. You little guinea pig are really mischievous. Oh well, Doctor, I'm magnanimous and won't hold it against you. Come in."
Möbius turned around and gently pulled out the middle book from the shelf. With a "thump," the bookshelf in front of him split in two, revealing a bright tunnel hidden inside.
"Let's go in, little mouse." After Mobius stepped halfway into the tunnel, he beckoned to Ming, who had never seen the world before, to come in.
After that, Ming took a deep breath and stepped into the tunnel.
The sight before him amazed him—the passageway was filled with high-tech equipment and complex experimental instruments. Ye Ming glanced around slightly and continued walking behind Möbius.
"How about it? Look at these top-notch experimental devices that are incredibly rare for elven units. Aren't they spectacular? Hehe, this is just the tip of the iceberg of my secret collection, Doctor!"
Like a child, Möbius spread her arms wide to show Ming her collection, patiently explaining the purpose of each piece.
As they talked, the two walked to the huge prototype laboratory at the deepest part of the basement.
The place was very large and spacious, and the laboratory was covered with a lot of white metal flooring. Ming tried to stomp on it with all his might, but found that the flooring was not damaged at all.
Turning your head to the center of the laboratory, you'll see an operating table right in the middle, connected to many pipes and cables of varying thicknesses. Various tools and instruments are laid out on the operating table, a sight that sends chills down your spine.
Then, Ming was led by Möbius to the operating table in the center.
"Take it off, little mouse." Möbius ordered Ming as soon as they reached the operating table.
"Huh?! Why?" Ming asked, his face full of confusion upon hearing the request.
"Stop talking nonsense, hurry up. Do you want me to help you take it off?" Möbius looked at Ming impatiently, then, as if realizing something, said mockingly:
"Haha, so that's how you think, little guinea pig~ Sorry, to me, every part of the human body is just an organ attached to the body. As a scientist, I don't care about such trivial matters."
Upon hearing this, Ming did not move, but stared directly at Möbius. Seeing this, Möbius, who was looking at Ming with a piercing gaze, had no choice but to give in.
"Fine, leave the clothes that cover the important parts, okay?"
Seeing Möbius compromise, Ming had no choice but to obediently take off his shirt and gloves, revealing his strong arms and his right hand, which looked like a charred rock.
Mobius observed Ming's right hand closely, puzzled, then stepped forward and gently touched the charred skin, as if exploring its secrets. Suddenly, a look of surprise flashed in her eyes.
"Incredible...it's a miracle! This hand was like a charred rock, radiating a temperature of around 40 degrees Celsius, yet you were able to use it without any problem just now. This is the power of a creature beyond nature, an elf?"
Mobius rubbed her eyes repeatedly with a fascination. After a while, Ming slowly removed his right hand, and with that, he took off the eyepatch from his left eye, revealing a crimson sheep's eye to her.
Möbius moved closer to Ming's face, carefully examining his sheep-like eyes, his own eyes gleaming with excitement.
"What beautiful eyes! Just like those holy cultists used to say...like a goat-headed demon that could control his mind," she murmured to herself. "By the way, little mouse, can you sell me your eyes? I'll pay any price!"
"Of course not!" Seeing that what was originally agreed upon as a dissection experiment suddenly turned into an attempt to attack his eyes, Mingyao sternly refused.
Möbius sighed helplessly, then pulled a syringe from her pocket. She walked towards Ming expressionlessly, her steps steady and firm. Reaching Ming's side, Möbius stopped, her gaze fixed intently on him.
He slowly raised the syringe in his hand, aiming the needle at Ming's left arm. Ming felt a chill, but he did not resist or flinch. Möbius took a deep breath and, without hesitation, plunged the needle into Ming's left arm.
"What is this?" Ming asked in confusion, unable to sense the effects of what had just happened from the syringe.
"Anesthetic, this dosage is enough to knock out an elephant, you know. How about it? Feeling dizzy? Let me know if you do!"
After hearing Möbius's reminder, Ming subconsciously tried to move his body and found that apart from the slight stinging pain when he was pricked, he could hardly feel any numbness.
"No, I don't feel anything strange, nor do I feel drowsy," Ming replied after carefully examining himself.
Möbius showed a hint of surprise; she clearly hadn't expected this. She glanced down at the syringe in her hand, then at Ming, who remained perfectly normal.
"How is this possible?" she muttered to herself. "Could it be that the dosage is insufficient? Or does your body have a special resistance? Trouble! Right now, you're the only Pokémon I can get close to, which makes it impossible for me to compare whether every Pokémon has this kind of resistance."
She held a small experimental booklet and slowly took notes.
Ming looked at Möbius, a sense of unease rising within him. He realized that this woman's experiments might be far more dangerous than he had imagined.
A flicker of doubt crossed Möbius's eyes, but she quickly regained her composure. She gently shook her head, seemingly denying her own idea.
“No matter what, the experiment must continue,” she said softly, then gestured for Ming to lie down on the operating table.
Ming lay down on the operating table with a heavy heart, and then the automatic shackles on the operating table suddenly activated.
"Huh?" Ming exclaimed in confusion.
"That won't work~ From what I understand, no matter what kind of life it is, even if you say you're going to give up and let the predator kill you, you'll still instinctively resist. So the white mouse can only control you like this for now."
Möbius simply put on his gloves, said nothing more, picked up his scalpel, and prepared to proceed with the next step of the procedure.
"Since the anesthetic isn't working, there's nothing I can do. Little mouse, please bear with it for a while."
After saying that, Möbius's hand moved quickly, drawing a graceful curve in the air, and cut open a gash in Ming's abdomen.
"Hmm, it seems your internal structure is similar to a human's," Möbius said to Ming, who lay quietly before him, experiencing the pain of having his abdomen cut open without uttering a sound. "But are you not feeling the pain, or are you just putting on a brave face?"
“I wasn’t faking it, it’s just that I’ve experienced pain that was even more intense than this. Your swordsmanship was very crisp and clean. Although it still hurt, it wasn’t as intense as what I’ve gone through,” Ming stated expressionlessly.
“Oh, I see. Little mouse, let’s continue…” Möbius said, and was about to continue, but suddenly, black flames ignited on Ming’s abdomen, and the cut was completely healed in an instant.
Mobius stared in astonishment at the regenerative flames on Ming's body. She had read about this ability in reports but had never seen it in person.
"This is it! This is what I want to see! The white mouse will be in a lot of pain, please try to bear it!" she murmured to herself, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
Undeterred, Möbius picked up another tool, intending to cut open Ming's body once more.
"Haha, almost there! Almost there! I'll figure it out soon." As she spoke, she put on something—a strange pair of goggles—and began to continue testing.
But this time, it was also quickly repaired by the flames of regeneration, even melting the tools into molten iron. The madness in Möbius's eyes grew more and more obvious; she seemed to have seen the secret to immortality hidden within this man's body.
At this moment, Ming felt his body gradually losing control, and the Flame of Regeneration began to burn uncontrollably.
"Wait, stop, my head hurts!" Ming suddenly felt a surge of negative emotions, as if they could devour him at any moment. He tried to call for a stop, but Mobius covered his mouth with his hand without hesitation.
"Don't talk, little lab rat. This research problem really tests your concentration. Please close your eyes. It'll be quick."
After saying that, Möbius's surgery began again; this was already her umpteenth scalpel. However, this time, just as the scalpel was about to touch Ming's body, it was completely melted away, turning into a pool of molten iron.
"What!" Seeing the scalpel melt, a look of surprise appeared in Möbius's eyes. She then reached out her hand slightly towards Shi Ming's body, but before she could get close, the intense heat burned her hand.
Möbius winced and withdrew her hand, but she didn't give up. She gritted her teeth, picked up a larger scalpel from the workbench beside her, and imbued it with an even more powerful [Freedom Domain].
Ming's consciousness grew increasingly blurred, and he felt as if his body was about to be burned to ashes.
Looking at Ming, whose eyes were bloodshot and filled with stress, Möbius sighed, reluctantly put down the scalpel, and said:
"Damn it, it seems there's no way I can dissect you with the equipment in this lab."
As Möbius spoke, he displayed a small piece of meat that he had initially cut open, but in the blink of an eye, the piece of meat turned into charcoal and then into ashes.
“I really didn’t get anything from you… well, not really, since I did manage to get some data on you when you were automatically using the Flame of Regeneration.” Möbius said, taking off the goggles he was wearing to examine his findings.
She stared wide-eyed, carefully observing Ming's body.
"Does every cell in the body seem to be filled with spiritual energy, holding back the cells that would otherwise be shed during metabolism, thus stopping the body from growing?"
"As for the regenerative flame just now, when it was generated, was it because spiritual energy was used to construct a place where things were destroyed? Wait... it doesn't have a heart!"
Mobius was startled, then looked at Ming, who had fainted on the operating table while forcibly suppressing his negative emotions, with surprise. She realized that Ming's physical structure was extremely special, a discovery that both excited and puzzled her.
"Ah~ what a perfect guinea pig. I'll keep you with me for now, so I can continue my experiments later." Möbius gave Ming a deep look, then thought about further studying his body's secrets.
She casually left a note, then left the lab and went back to DEM to do something with the experimental data measured using goggles.
