Chapter 129 Midterm Exam
Chapter 129 Midterm Exam
"Thank you for taking the time to help me," Sylvie said, standing up. There were only a handful of people left in the library.
"You're welcome." Morse's brief reply made Sylvie realize his character once again.
"Well... I'll be going now." With that, she returned to her seat. When she glanced at her desk, she noticed that Jasmine was asleep, her head resting on the table, papers and notes scattered around her.
“Jasmine?” Sylvie called softly, gently shaking her friend’s shoulder.
Jasmine stirred, her eyes slightly opening as she groggily looked around. "Hmm? What's wrong? How long have I been asleep?"
Sylvie couldn't help but laugh. "We should go."
Jasmine yawned and stretched. "Well, thank you for helping me with my studies, Sylvie."
“You’re welcome,” Sylvie said, her gaze unconsciously shifting to Morse, who was still engrossed in his studies.
I guess he won't be leaving anytime soon.
Looking at his focused face, I thought to myself.
'I didn't expect him to be such a good teacher.'
She had never imagined that Morse was so good at explaining things, especially when pointing out her mistakes.
The important thing is not that he can solve the problem, but that he can analyze her thought process when she solves the problem on her own.
It was as if he knew her better than she knew herself. How strange.
"Hmm?" Sylvie noticed that Jasmine was squinting at her, as if she suspected something.
Under her friend's scrutiny, Sylvie couldn't help but feel uneasy. "Jasmine, why are you looking at me like that?"
Jasmine blinked, then shrugged. "Nothing..." she said, her gaze shifting between Morse and Sylvie, as if hinting at something.
Sylvie smiled nervously. "What's wrong? We were just discussing a problem in the 'Dungeon Theory,' and Morse helped me understand it."
"Really?" Jasmine seemed a little skeptical, but she didn't press the matter further.
“Really, he’s more amazing than I thought,” Sylvie admitted.
Jasmine yawned again. "Alright, sounds like you had a very fulfilling evening. Let's go then, midterms aren't so easy to handle."
Sylvie nodded, and they began packing their things. They quietly left the library, leaving Morse to continue studying, before returning to their dormitory to rest and prepare for their upcoming exams.
......
Contrary to expectations, there were no events related to demons or demon contractors during the academy's midterm exams.
This is mainly because they need to keep a low profile after the recent events. However, there are still some demon contractors within the academy acting for their own purposes, but nothing major is expected during this period.
However, this does not mean that the game has ignored this part of the story.
At the Arcadia Hunter Academy, the exams consist of two parts: a written and theoretical exam, and a practical exam.
In the game, most of the theoretical exams are skipped, since no player wants to look at a bunch of exam papers while playing a game.
But the real world is different. You can't skip theory exams like you would in a game, and the college has minimum grade requirements for students; those who don't meet them will be expelled.
For these prestigious schools that cultivate "elites," they are extremely strict about exams and student performance.
Therefore, I need to meet at least the basic requirements. That's why I go to the library.
Although I didn't expect to run into Sylvie there, the encounter was quite helpful to me.
While teaching her, I also learned and mastered knowledge faster than usual. By the time my studies ended, I had completed all the required subjects.
There's also the practical exam, which is the part I need to focus on the most. It's an event in the game where Ethan will showcase his talents and attract the attention of some groups.
To showcase his talent, he needs to overcome difficulties, and the challenge of the second act is the Midterm Exam Dungeon.
And just like that, a week flew by, and now the midterm exams are here.
......
In the corridors of Arcadia Hunter Academy, students were gathering, preparing for their midterm exams. The day was filled with tension and anxiety, a test of their hard work throughout the semester.
While waiting for the exam to begin, students chatted in small groups about their revision progress. Some expressed concern about the challenging course, while others worried about not having reviewed all the material.
"I never expected 'Advanced Mana Control' to be so difficult. I haven't even finished half of the textbook," a student complained to a friend.
He is an upperclassman at the academy, currently studying an advanced course on manipulating magic. "Advanced Mana Control" is one of the advanced courses within the freshman course "Mana Studies."
Another student chimed in, “I understand what you mean, but ‘The Study of Demons and Darkness’ is not simple either. There’s so much to learn, and I feel like I’ve only scratched the surface.”
These two senior students have been in the college for a long time, but they still struggle to cover all the course content.
The atmosphere was noticeably different when they entered the freshman classrooms.
While the upperclassmen complained about the exams, they were seasoned veterans who had endured at least three of these "hellish" tests. The situation was clearly different for the freshmen. They were facing their first midterms, and the atmosphere was noticeably more tense.
“The Mana Research course is too difficult,” a freshman exclaimed. “I wanted to stay up all night to finish reviewing all the material, but there’s just too much! I simply can’t finish reviewing it all.”
Another student nodded in agreement, holding his notes. "Absolutely! And 'Dungeon Theory' was my nightmare too. I didn't even know if I'd eaten breakfast, let alone these complicated diagrams."
As the exam date approaches, some students are still flipping through textbooks and hurriedly jotting down notes.
Anxiety hung in the air as the freshmen studied frantically, praying they could memorize everything to prepare for the upcoming exams. They all knew the importance of the theoretical exams, not because of their real-life significance, but because of their impact on their grades.
"Why should we learn these things? We won't be calculating the mana in the dungeons later."
Although everyone had these thoughts in their hearts, they didn't say them out loud. They knew that nothing would change anyway, so they just complained quietly.
But not all students are like them. Some have already learned these skills from the beginning. They sit calmly in their seats, waiting for the exam to arrive.
And one of them is...
"Irina."
The girl with fiery red hair sat in the front row.
"what?"
When her deskmate Julia sat down next to her, she gave her an impatient look and then closed her eyes again.
"What are you doing?"
"I'm organizing information."
"Huh? What do you mean?"
"you do not need to know."
What most people don't know is that the mages of high-ranking families possess special magical skills that allow them to organize information using magic.
'Mental storage.'
Now, Irina is organizing all the information stored in her mind.
"Hey, Ethan. How are you?"
Seeing that Irina wasn't going to respond, Julia turned her attention to Ethan, who was sitting behind her.
"I'm checking my notes." Ethan is a diligent student, but he has a small weakness: he's not good at solving analytical and computational problems. That's why he's still working hard.
“I’m sleepy,” Lucas added, slumping over the table.
"Tsk..." Julia couldn't help but purse her lips at the sight. She knew her twin brother was very good at studying and quite intelligent.
"What? Are you jealous that my genes are better than yours?"
"Get lost! Who's jealous of you, you lowlife?"
"Huh! What are you saying!"
The argument between Julia and Lucas continued to escalate, with them hurling insults and mockery at each other.
Lucas continued to provoke, "If you didn't look like a man, you would have a boyfriend by now."
Anger flared in Julia's eyes: "Lucas, you've really crossed the line this time..."
Boom!
But before she could say anything more, the door was suddenly pushed open, and the proctor walked in.
"Put your notes away. The exam will begin when the bell rings."
Everyone fell silent, a tense atmosphere filling the air, and they turned their attention to the proctor.
Midterm exams are about to begin.
