Chapter 187 The Whole Family Mobilizes to Find a Revenge
Chapter 187 The Whole Family Mobilizes to Find a Revenge
Shu Yun had a bad feeling. With trembling hands, she took the mirror and saw her bangs in the mirror, which looked like they had been bitten by a dog. She couldn't help but close her eyes, and then opened them again in disbelief to look at herself in the mirror.
Her bangs were uneven, some reaching past her eyebrows, others much shorter, and the length of her hair on both sides was extremely asymmetrical. Shu Yun thought that if she were to wear a big floral-patterned jacket from Northeast China now, she would be a real goofy girl.
If it weren't for Shu Yun's natural facial features, this hairstyle would be so ugly it would be an eyesore.
Hearing the little one's whimpering, Shu Yun felt a pang of sadness, and her nose stung with tears. If she weren't concerned about her image, she would have burst into tears right there and then.
Gu Jun: Where did you get this cut?
Shu Yun sniffed. "I was originally going to the barbershop, but I was dragged to the black market. I saw that the old folks were having a hard time with a little kid, so I softened and agreed." Shu Yun lowered her voice when she mentioned the black market.
Gu Jun: "How much did this cost?"
Shu Yun: "This is cheaper than usual, about 4 cents, but with this level of haircutting, I could cut my hair for free too."
Shu Yun was even more upset.
Looking at the two pairs of red eyes, one big and one small, Gu Jun forced himself to comfort them, "Actually, now that I look at it, I think it's not bad. The main thing is that Xiaoyun, your face is beautiful, so you can pull off even the worst hairstyle."
Shu Yun loved hearing compliments, sniffed, and asked, "Really?"
"Really." Gu Jun nodded, then forced out another sentence, "And shorter hair is easier to wash, which is more convenient."
Shu Yun: "That's true."
As the two were talking, the courtyard gate was left open. Tian Xiufen returned with her bag slung over her shoulder and immediately spotted Shu Yun's back. "You went to get a haircut?"
Shu Yun turned around and said, "Yes."
Tian Xiufen frowned. "Your hair." Tian Xiufen hesitated. "Did you let Xiao Gu cut it himself?"
Shu Yun pouted, her nose starting to sting again, but she held it in. Then she heard Tian Xiufen continue, "But Xiao Yun, Xiao Gu's skills are terrible. Look at what he did to your bangs. You should spend the money you need to. It's such a waste of your pretty face."
Shu Yun replied weakly, "No."
However, Tian Xiufen didn't hear her. She touched her hair and said, "Your hair used to be quite long, thick and full. It looked good to me. How much did you sell it for after cutting it all off? I'm planning to cut mine off and sell it too."
"You can even sell them after cutting them!" Shu Yun's eyes widened in surprise; she had completely forgotten about this whole thing.
Yes, no wonder they cut her hair so short; they were going to sell it for money. Shu Yun was heartbroken.
That evening, as Shu Yun sat in front of her dressing table wiping her face, she saw her disastrous hairstyle and sighed again.
Gu Jun found it somewhat amusing, but dared not show it. He simply said, "Tomorrow at noon, we'll go to the city together to find that family and demand an explanation."
The next day, Shu Yun, with her hair all messy and disheveled from sleeping, took her family—one adult and one child—to the city to find a shady barbershop.
Little Gu Xi also wanted to join in the fun, so she took the little wooden sword that Gu Jun had made for her and waved it in the air, looking like a little girl who wanted to avenge her mother.
The family arrived at the place in a great mood, only to find it deserted. The small wooden stools that had been placed in the corner were gone, leaving Shu Yun dumbfounded.
Gu Jun asked the old man selling chickens at the stall next to him, "Excuse me, are the old couple who gave haircuts here yesterday coming back today?"
The old man sighed, glanced at Shu Yun, whose hair was disheveled and who looked miserable, and said, "They're just in the business of one-off transactions. They wouldn't stay in one place for long. As soon as you left yesterday, the old couple took the child and left immediately."
Shu Yun was shocked. No wonder, no wonder the old woman yesterday swore that they never came back to fix her haircuts. The person was gone, how could they find a ghost?
Shu Yun was so angry her hair almost stood on end!
The old man glanced at Shu Yun again, grinned, and said, "You little girl, you have bad eyesight. I gave you so many signals yesterday, but you didn't see a single one. You deserve to be fooled."
Shu Yun: ...
Her anger dissipated completely. She thought about it carefully and realized that there really was such a thing.
Shu Yun glanced at the old man several times, wondering if he had poor eyesight, as his eyelids kept blinking. She also felt a pang of pity for him.
Little did she know, she was the real unlucky one!
Shu Yun persisted, "Grandpa, do you know where they might go?"
The old man glanced at her and said, "How would I know? I saw them once before in another place, and they fooled several people. That's how I found out about their tricks. They do random things here and there, and they're always hiding from you suckers. It would be a miracle if they were ever found."
Shu Yun remained silent. She couldn't find anyone, and this was the black market. Going to the police would basically be asking for trouble. She wouldn't find anyone and would only get herself into trouble. It was not worth it. She guessed that the old couple had the same idea. However, it was really despicable to use a child to gain her sympathy and then swindle money.
If we become disheartened because of this, the most terrifying thing is that when we encounter someone who truly needs help, we don't receive any kindness from others. This is how social trust declines.
Unable to find anyone, Shu Yun, though unwilling, had no choice but to be dragged by Gu Jun to a proper hair salon to get her messy hair trimmed.
As soon as Shu Yun arrived at the barbershop, she took off her hat, and her messy hair, crackling with static electricity, stood up in the air. Facing the gazes of several experienced barbers in the shop, Shu Yun awkwardly pressed down her unruly hair with her hand.
One of the barbers smiled and gestured "2" to Shu Yun. Shu Yun was still puzzled. Did it cost 2 cents? That's a bit expensive.
Then the barber said, "You're the second person this month with hair like yours."
Shu Yun's lips twitched. "Then, sir, could you please fix it for me and salvage my hairstyle a little?"
The barber patted the chair and stubbed out the cigarette he was holding. "Sit down."
Shu Yun sat down in a chair and had her hair trimmed by the hairdresser, while Gu Jun carried Gu Xi to a nearby supply and marketing cooperative. The old barber's hands were very steady and his movements were very fast. With a few snips of the scissors, he had trimmed her hair to almost ear length, a little shorter than before, but the hair was cut in a very layered way, so it looked particularly refreshing and capable.
There was little room for improvement in the bangs, so the shortest section could be used as a reference. A straight fringe that extended above the eyebrows was cut. Because of Shu Yun's delicate and pretty features, it didn't look bad at all; instead, it added a touch of lively and playful beauty.
Looking at herself in the mirror, Shu Yun felt much of the frustration that had been building up in her chest dissipate.
