Chapter 196 Ripples in My Heart
Chapter 196 Ripples in My Heart
Lin Chuyue stopped in front of the apartment building, glancing back at Zhan Chuan's departing taillights, a surge of indescribable emotion welling up inside her. Today's conversation had given her a long-lost warmth, yet it had also deepened her confusion. Zhan Chuan's sincerity and concern, as always, touched the softest part of her heart, but she still couldn't completely let down her guard and accept these feelings.
She pressed the doorbell, and the door slowly opened, revealing a familiar homey atmosphere. This small space held the weight of her loneliness and resilience over the years; despite the ever-changing world, she remained accustomed to facing everything alone.
Lin Chuyue walked into the living room, took off her coat, casually hung it on the hanger, and stood by the window, gazing intently at the night sky. The lights and traffic outside continued to change, the city's hustle and bustle seemed irrelevant to her; only she herself remained, still struggling with her inner turmoil.
She sighed softly, Zhan Chuan's gentle words from earlier echoing in her mind: "I will always be by your side." These words undoubtedly offered her immense comfort, but also placed a considerable pressure on her. She couldn't help but ask herself, was she too strong, or was it the pain of the past that made her unable to easily accept a helping hand extended to her by others?
As night deepened, Lin Chuyue finally returned to the bedside. Lying down, her eyelids felt heavy, but her heart remained uneasy. She closed her eyes, her mind replaying the conversations with Zhan Chuan, as if an invisible thread bound their relationship together, both intimately connected and unattainably distant.
The next morning, when Lin Chuyue woke up, the sun was already shining brightly. She quickly got up, washed up, picked up her phone, and saw an unread message.
It was a message from Gu Yanchuan: "How have you been lately? Let me know if you need any help."
She paused slightly, remembering that Gu Yanchuan had also expressed concern for her during their last meeting. Although their engagement had been dissolved, he still maintained a gentle distance, seemingly silently observing everything about her. Lin Chuyue smiled faintly and replied, "Everything is fine, thank you for your concern."
Gu Yanchuan didn't reply immediately, but Lin Chuyue felt a surge of warmth in her heart. Gu Yanchuan's concern for her wasn't as direct as Zhan Chuan's, but it still made her feel a sense of familiarity and security from the past. She knew that although they had gone their separate ways, this affection would always hold a place in her heart.
As evening fell, Lin Chuyue was busy at the company. Recently, the company's operations had gradually stabilized, and the board of directors had gradually accepted her leadership position, but many challenges still awaited her resolution. Just as she was about to review a recent financial statement, her phone vibrated again.
She picked up her phone and saw a familiar name—Li Zhanchuan.
Are you free tonight? Let's have dinner together.
Lin Chuyue's heart raced involuntarily; Zhan Chuan's messages always stirred a ripple in her heart. She hesitated for a moment before replying, "Okay, what time?"
"I've decided on the meeting place for seven o'clock."
Lin Chuyue raised her head and took a deep breath. Her feelings were somewhat complicated. Zhan Chuan's initiative and care always gave her an invisible attraction, but she dared not rely on him too much. Was this affection a need of her own heart, or was it Zhan Chuan's genuine desire to care for her?
At seven o'clock, the restaurant was still a quiet place, with soft lighting and a warm atmosphere. Lin Chuyue sat by the window, gazing at the neon lights outside, but her mind was far from calm. She had arrived early, and couldn't help feeling a little uneasy.
Soon after, Li Zhanchuan arrived as promised. He was still wearing that simple and neat suit, without any unnecessary decorations, yet the calm and profound aura he exuded was impossible to ignore.
"You've come." Li Zhanchuan smiled slightly, his voice gentle yet carrying an undeniable firmness.
"I have something to talk to you about." Lin Chuyue looked up and stared directly at him, feeling a little nervous.
Li Zhanchuan gestured for her to sit down, a deep glint in his eyes: "Go on."
Lin Chuyue took a deep breath and put down her cup: "Actually, I'm not sure what to do either. Lately, I've been thinking about whether I should completely re-examine our relationship."
Li Zhanchuan's eyes were deep, as if he had already anticipated her words. A faint smile appeared on his lips: "Are you thinking that we should put the past behind us?"
Lin Chuyue paused, her gaze flickering uncertainly. She didn't respond directly, but changed the subject: "Zhan Chuan, things at the company are very urgent, I have to give it my all. As for you… I'm a little confused."
Li Zhanchuan listened quietly until she finished speaking, and then slowly said, "I understand you are confused, and I know you won't easily accept change. But you must remember that no matter what happens, I will be by your side, supporting you, and even being the strength behind you."
His voice was deep and firm, like a warm current gently eroding Lin Chuyue's defenses.
Lin Chuyue's heart raced. She knew he wasn't just saying those words out of concern for her. Zhan Chuan's feelings had deeply penetrated her heart. She suddenly realized that perhaps she wasn't as indifferent as she thought, completely unaware of this warmth.
Her gaze softened slightly, and she said softly, "Thank you, Zhanchuan."
Li Zhanchuan looked at her, his eyes filled with tenderness and understanding. Even though she still hesitated, he was still willing to wait and willing to do anything for her.
The atmosphere at the dinner table gradually became warm and profound. As time passed, the two did not discuss any more complicated topics. They simply shared their feelings silently and quietly enjoyed this rare moment of companionship.
