Chapter 197 The Silent Promise
Chapter 197 The Silent Promise
After dinner, as night deepened, Zhan Chuan drove Lin Chuyue back to her apartment. Inside the car, it was so quiet they could almost hear each other's heartbeats. Lin Chuyue gazed out the window, unsure how to express the complex emotions in her heart. Zhan Chuan's words echoed repeatedly in her mind: "No matter what happens, I will be by your side." These words were like a warm key, unlocking a long-closed corner of her heart.
The car slowly came to a stop in front of the apartment building. Zhan Chuan turned off the engine and turned to look at Lin Chuyue. His gaze was gentle and deep, as if it pierced through the window glass and looked directly into her heart.
"You must be very tired?" he asked softly.
Lin Chuyue shook her head slightly: "I'm not tired, it's just that some things are hard to decide."
Zhan Chuan did not respond immediately. After a moment of silence, he said, "You don't need to rush to make a decision. Take your time and give yourself some time."
His words were like a promise to her, gentle yet firm. Lin Chuyue looked at him, her heart churning with complex emotions. She understood that Zhan Chuan wasn't in a hurry to force her to make a choice, but rather giving her space to think and face the situation.
"Thank you, Zhanchuan," Lin Chuyue finally spoke, her voice somewhat low.
Zhan Chuan smiled slightly: "I won't leave you to face this alone."
At this moment, Lin Chuyue felt a long-lost sense of comfort, but at the same time, she also felt a sense of pressure. Zhan Chuan's concern was the warmth she had always longed for, but she was also afraid of becoming too dependent on him, afraid of unknowingly falling into an unpredictable emotional vortex.
She pushed open the car door, got out, and turned to Zhan Chuan, saying, "Go back now. Thank you for spending time with me today." She didn't dare say anything more, because she knew that her feelings at that moment were too complicated for her to face.
Zhan Chuan watched her retreating figure, his gaze deep and unwavering. Only after Lin Chuyue entered the apartment did he start the car and slowly drive away.
The next day, Lin Chuyue returned to the company with a faint smile on her face. Although she still felt some lingering doubts, she knew she had gradually regained some of her own strength. She stopped thinking about whether Zhan Chuan's concern would change anything or what consequences it might bring. Now, she needed to focus her attention on the company's development and her own future.
Inside the meeting room, Lin Chuyue was chairing an important meeting. As always, she was composed and capable, quickly getting into work mode. Her gaze was clear and decisive, carrying an undeniable aura that immediately drew everyone's attention. The board members' gazes were no longer merely filled with doubt or distrust, but rather with recognition and admiration.
Li Gang, the company's CFO, stood aside, quietly watching Lin Chuyue, a hint of approval in his eyes. As an important manager in the company, he knew clearly that Lin Chuyue was no longer just a figurehead leader, but a truly capable and strong woman who could shoulder the company's future.
After the meeting, Lin Chuyue walked out of the conference room and was about to return to her office when Wang Peng quietly walked up to her side.
"President Lin, I have something to report to you," Wang Peng said in a low voice, a hint of nervousness in his tone.
Lin Chuyue frowned slightly, her heart instantly on high alert. Wang Peng was Shen Fang's confidant and had done many shady things behind her back. Although Wang Peng had outwardly submitted, she remained vigilant.
"Speak." Lin Chuyue's voice was calm, but her tone contained a hint of coldness that could not be ignored.
Wang Peng was silent for a moment, then lowered his head and said, "You should know about Shen Fang's matter. She is currently abroad, and although there has been no movement for the time being, her plan is not over yet."
Lin Chuyue frowned. She knew that Shen Fang was not someone who gave up easily, especially after losing everything. Shen Fang would definitely retaliate even more fiercely.
"She will come back," Lin Chuyue said calmly, her tone carrying an undeniable firmness.
Wang Peng nodded: "I will provide you with intelligence at any time to ensure that Shen Fang's plans will no longer pose a threat to you and the company."
Lin Chuyue smiled slightly: "Thank you for your cooperation."
Wang Peng looked at her, a complex expression flashing in his eyes, but it quickly disappeared. He bowed his head in response, then hurriedly left.
Lin Chuyue stood there, a ripple still stirring in her heart. She knew that Shen Fang's shadow hadn't completely faded, and her future remained uncertain. However, she also understood that she couldn't turn back, couldn't let the shadows of the past hinder her progress.
She took a deep breath and turned to walk towards her office. Today's work had brought new challenges, and she was ready to face them.
As evening fell, Lin Chuyue was organizing documents in her office when her phone suddenly vibrated. She picked it up and saw a message from Zhan Chuan: "Are you free tonight? Let's have dinner together."
Lin Chuyue looked at the message and a smile involuntarily crept onto her lips. She knew that Zhan Chuan's concern for her wasn't just superficial; his feelings went far beyond that, and she seemed unable to resist the warmth he offered.
She quickly replied, "Okay, see you at seven."
As night fell, Lin Chuyue put on a simple black dress, applied light makeup, and stood in front of the mirror to fix her hair. She took a deep breath in front of the mirror and nodded gently: "I can do it."
She picked up her bag, walked out of the office, and prepared to welcome Zhan Chuan once again.
